Hot ignition coil, but engine isn't even running!

#1 Post by UKJeeper »

Noticed that the ignition coil on Freddie is getting hot, really hot, as in egg frying hot even while the engine isn't running.
Normal? (seems doubtful) or something wrong?

With the ignition on, your coil is energised and will get hotter without the engine running than with. I can't claim to have done a temperature test but have noticed mine gets hot enough for me not to want to hold on to it if I leave the keys on while "tinkering"
If your coil is hot when you come to your car in the morning then you have a problem ;)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.
