Car Tilter

Hello I need to do some welding to my sills and floor panels of my 1959 Simca Aronde I have a bad back so rather than lay under the car i intend to tip the car on its side and do the work from a standing position; Looking at the car Tilters they seem expensive for what they are.
so I am going to try and make something to suit . the basis design will bolt to the wheel hubs and then as the opposite side is raised the bottom side can tilt on rails. either curved or angled. does anyone have any plans or pics of alternative designs.
Just as a comment we probably all will use a tilter a mig welder a compressor and other equipment hows about getting together and hiring out some equipment to make the restoration a little easier and cheaper

Sounds like you need 'Mr Grumpy'

Mr Grumpy was the name of a specialist morris minor supplier. The company name was appropriate from my dealings with him but he ceased trading lots of years ago. If you were to google something like "car tilter plans" or "car roller plans" you will find there are several different designs. If the car is stripped I have seen people lift them on to one side with a mattress on the floor. Not something I would try but I know it has been done.

just managed to buy a tilter complete with wheels and a mig welder so hoping to get it over and start grinding out the rot this weekend

Excellent news. Have you managed to find any NOS panels for the car or are you going to be making your own? Either way, please post your efforts on the forum, preferably with pictures. Lots of pictures.

We have a more complex version of a tilter supplied by http://www.cjautos.eu/ but it does mean that you can remove the axles to access the work that is being undertaken - it could be simply built from box section - I'm happy to sketch the measurements to a drawing or dependant upon where you are located you could come and have a look for yourself should you wish - Chris
