V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Thanks for that SirTainleyBarking, I was the only one who noticed
that the thing wasn't heating up and the temp gauge was only
kicking in when it was moving and would stay off until it was moved!
As it isn't mine I don't usually check under the bonnet, especially as
I don't drive it!
I figured out there was a bleeder plug and got rid of the air in the
cooling system, but I know that damage has been done because of
it, as it had been driven around and pulling vehicles out of the floods
and towing a horse box (loaded) for a good month before I found out.
Add the steering box seals are worn and the oil slicks left on the drive
from it leaking (my nick name for it is the exxon valdez) Dad was
previously complaining about the little oil I spilled when moving and
removing the V6 engine and gearbox about (I spilled a little
transmission oil) not the thick heavy engine oil that is coming from his
plus the steering box leak.
The exon valdez will be replaced sometime this year, all I'm doing is
prolonging the inevitable (I vaguely remember there is a possible need
for another gearbox too!)

Steering boxes are a consumable on disco's....
I'm on my third (The replacement No.2 failed in 9 months, free replacement under warranty)
Hey at least the bolts are never seized

Landrovers and Welding go together like Bread and Butter. And in the wet they are about as structurally sound

Okay a little bit done tonight I finished removing hat was left of the
circuit board from the ECU socket. The smell and fumes from the
protective rubber knock me sick when I'm using the soldering iron to
do the de-soldering. So I that is why it has taken so long to do it as
I'm not well to start with!
On one side which I started first 2 pins the end snaped of and a
further one came part way out before snapping. So it will be fun fixing
it for use

The plugs with wires got a good cleaning with the ecu socket ready for
tomorrow night.

I still can't that acrid smell and taste out of my mouth from the fumes

Work on the good plug tonight, 20 done, 20 to go!
And those fumes!!!!!! tight chest, headaches, then my back
decides it wants to get in on the act so knocked off for the night.

Getting there¬, you should really wear a good mask and melt that stuff in a well ventilated place sounds seriously bad for you. How are you connecting the cables back on there?
Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Peter I know what you mean. but my eye sight being what
it is when it comes to close up work my depth perception goes
out the window so I'm hunched over the bloody thing to do
anything!
Unfortunately the bit between the socket and the side of the
sockets prevents me from getting out the rubber/protective gel
without damaging the pins, so I'm stuck doing it this way!
And each wire is being soldered on it's respective pin the heat
shrink shrouding (which is blue in the above photo) to insulate
and stop any shorts.

Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Right I have almost complete one socket, it was easier once I
switched to an ever so slightly thinner wire being used to solder
onto the pins.
I have to clear up the mess of solder on a couple of pins.before
covering the connections with heat shrink insulation.

I have purchased off ebay a second hand front end lpg kit off a
BMW 528 so the kit is suitable for around 200bhp engines. Yes it
is a sequential and not a single point injection system.
As the adapter is still in the process of being made it would not
take much to connect the LPG wiring loom into the adapter, rather
than try and cut into the loom already on the car. Of course that is
after the car is running with no problem on good old petrol.

Tried anything like these? I use them for my railway modelling...Mitsuru wrote:Peter I know what you mean. but my eye sight being what

Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
It's alright I have been lucky with the outside temp being better, I've
been able to open more of the windows for a better through draft for
ventilation. Add to which by changing the size of wire, this has made
it quicker and easier to solder the wires to the pins.
I have no idea how best to tackle the mess that is the other plug!
Any suggestions?

Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Yes, check each pin against its closest neighbours - with a multimeter - for leaks. Then, if all of the insulation is intact, use it, maybe encase the ends of the leads and their pins in Araldite or similar before fitting. Only worry if there are loads of inter pin shorts or, where the soldered joints are the driest, resistance values that are even slightly higher than a low number in the third decimal place of the meter's readout where the first is tenths of Ohms.
Just because it looks like something built a nest in there, it's not necessarily any less viable.
