I thought that they cover pretty much all of the metallurgy and the stats. Here's an idea though; if it doesn't cover all of the questions you have about the mystery that is lead memory, maybe a specific question would be better?

:? I thought that was what you must have meant at first but then, when I tried it that night, it was working. Right enough it's not working now though. Most odd, will email their tech author bloke and ask what gives.....

I agree that if you use petrol additive you should stick to one make. I also use valvemaster. It works out a very cheap insurance policy per litre fuel. 9 years / 10,000 miles no problems yet, but I have a steel cylinder head on the Alvis.
Hope you had the exhaust looked at. I had the same problem with a dual exhaust Alvis when i bought it. The exhaust sections were welded up & fitted at a modern exhaust place by the owners before me (who were not mechanically minded). It was installed wrongly and was too low and missing some support brackets - It kept scraping speed bumps. Best to get it sorted before you tear it off.

There are some good trails on this forum on SU Carbs and their set up. I also found plenty of help on the web generally. Burlen fuel systems are a very good company for parts / overhauls.
