okay who left the keys in the tractor? Rich?

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Dog drives tractor over busy motorway

Don the border collie inadvertantly took control of his master's tractor

A sheep dog “took control” of a tractor yesterday, crashing it through a fence and onto a busy motorway.

Tom Hamilton, 77, a farmer in South Lanarkshire, was tending to a lamb when Don, his border collie, jumped into the tractor that was in the field next to the M74 near Abington.

The dog then leant on the tractor’s controls which sent it towards the fence that separated the field and motorway. At 8.15am, commuters saw the driverless vehicle veer down the embankment onto the northbound lane and into the central reservation.

The incident caused only minor delays at junction

Is that what they're calling it these days?

That's much closer to Tractorman than it is to Rich. Just saying, no accusation intended, but Tractorman does have an intelligent dog.

Coincidentally, the dog has been having an upsetting day today! She went to chase a friend's cat and found out that there are some cats that won't run and are ready for a fight! Then she "stole" his dog's ball - she has only just realised that you can play with a ball, so she is making progress at last! She chases the young cattle in the field behind the house (from the safety of our garden), but paid scant attention to the sheep on the marsh this morning; I hope that is normal for her as we haven't been "among the sheep" yet. There again, she did chase the farmer's Discovery when he went past.

There was one farm where the very large and leggy collie (dog) liked to sit on the angled window behind the tractor seat and yap (not bark) all the time. When he really got excited, he liked to put his chin on my head - and drool! His other trick was to stand on the car's transmission tunnel and press the horn with his chest. That was before he trashed the interior.

Another collie used to come and help get the cows at milking time and one field was a large marsh - about half a mile long. The only snag is that she would only fetch the cows that were nearby (and already coming to the gate). I shouted at her to go for the others and she took one look at me and went home in a huff!

That "Scottish" dog must have been clever to know how to put the gear lever in the "start" position so it could turn the key to start the tractor, let alone get it into the right gear! Oh, perhaps the farmer left the engine running - something I would be cautious about as most tractors have lousy handbrakes!
