Lada car prices what are they on?

#1 Post by Mitsuru »

I was doing my usual ebay searches and noticed the price of lada cars are rather high as in over £1,500!
Is it just me or are all of the old ladas worth that much or are the sellers off their trolleys?

Most of them went back in pieces or as full cars back to Russia via Hull when the wall came down

Bog all left over here, so it's a sellers market, if they can get away with it
Landrovers and Welding go together like Bread and Butter. And in the wet they are about as structurally sound

Biting. It's like kissing except there's a winner

I too am old enough to remember when Ladas were silly cheap. My blue 1984 Lada 1500 Combi cost me a straight swap for a Vauxhall Victor (FE) that I'd bought the year before for only £200, this was in 1986 or somewhen about there. Later in '87 I took the Lada to a fella in the airport estate (by Kingston Park, through in Newcastle) who was buying them up and flogging them to some Russian sailor he'd met in a bar. This entrepreneurial sort gave me £1100  for the car that I'd had for several months and that had been nothing but a source of heartache, albeit a source of heartache with a scorching good heater, which had only cost me £200 in the first place so goodness knows what he was taking from the Russian for these cars but I didn't care and promptly went out and bought another FE.
:)
Happy days, though the FSO 125P (RIP. D641WTF  ) was always the far better car as its steering was lovely and light, it had reliable brakes and and it was bright red. :| I still miss that Polski Fiat, but I soon wanted another old car and sold WTF back to the supplying dealer at a profit 8-) then spent the money on a gorgeous A60.

Well unsurprisingly, no-one was stupid enough to pay £1650 for it and it didn't sell....awful when new, and no doubt still as bad. Most were bought new by people who wanted a new reg car but couldn't really afford one, when they could've bought something much better but 3 years older. A work colleague had one in the early 90's, used and very cheap- I was regularly welding it, the steel seemed very low quality and it was soooo slow, and thirsty too, nothing at all to commend it!

The same mentality still exists today, only this time it's chinese motorcycles. When boy Rusty was 16 last year and we went scooter hunting, we ended uo with a 12 year old Vespa - we could've got a 2 year old chinese thing for the same money, but they were uniformly awful, yet people still buy them because they're new!

I cant see the original poster of the threads point - Its taxed / tested / solid and had some decent expenditure spent on it - its tidy enough and would make a good 80's classic for people who appreciate the 80's classics - I have no doubt that if you made a sensible offer to the seller you would buy it - so what's the problem ? Is the point that just because it's a Lada it has to be given away ? - there are not many up / together taxed / tested / tidy / un chaved 80's classics out there in the £1250 - £1500 price band come to that there are not too many examples of Ladas that are out there either so maybe its an appreciating 80's classic ;)
