Keeping birds out of the garage!

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Keeping birds out of the garage!

#1 Post by TerryG »

My garage has a coragated roof which leaves lots of holes along each side. I'm sure the sparrows are coming in and leaving messages on the car just to torment me! Does anybody know how to block these up without resorting to newspaper or expanding foam (my two attempts so far that have been really time consuming and less than effective).
I am getting bored of cleaning bird poo off the car when it is indoors!

Yes, you can get strips of pre-formed foam from most decent DIY shops that are for this very purpose - I re-roofed my garages last year and used this. You might need to slacken off the bolts/screws holding down the corrugated fabric to push the foam under, but if you can't do this it's still ery likely that you can wangle it in somehow.

If you can't get it from your local DIY place then search for a sheet roofing supplier, they'll have it.

Cheers :D
Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.

I usually tell them in advance that they'll snag their tights and get their handbags oily.....
Usually does the trick :D

You've got problems!

The little darlings were nesting between the two layers of the cab roof! As it is black on the outside, it got too hot for them when the warm weather came.

Sorry the pic is very low res, but it saves server space!

Yes, I hope to start on the resto this year - but I've only had the tractor for three and a half years!

How hard I resisted the temptation to make a similar comment. Just as well I did resist, 'cos she who must be taken notice of when I want feeding or a hand with servicing the car sometimes reads this forum and would be wearing bits of me as ear rings if I'd gone ahead and posted along those lines. ;)

I have a pet crow, Simon, who makes sure that small, annoying birds are kept away from my place in exchange for the odd bag of chips or plate of cat food.
Great birds, crows, good natural mimics too but I'm sure he didn't learn those words from me.

When we first bought the house i decided to sweep the chimneys. I started with the shortest one (with the view that it would be easiest) 8 binliners of rubbish later one final push and the room was filled with dust and rubble so i ran out and closed the door. 15 minutes later when i went back in there were 3 baby rooks walking around! very easy to catch and put outside but i think i'll survive without keeping any of them as pets.

To 'eck with the birds, why's the 880 got an oval silencer? The correct red ones are only about £90!

Ah... I see!

We had a tame crow last summer. A solitary bird who was getting rather old and couldn't put his wings on his back. As we have a woman Cheryl living across the road, we had to call him Stone!

Sorry, what I know about tractors could be written on a stamp.
I know it's a david brown and it was rewired last year and i can drive it across the yard so i don't get covered in the stuff that comes out of the back end of a cow (not milk).
Beyond that i have no clue.
