Rear axle re-fitting

#1 Post by jpsh120 »

Quick question chaps,

When I re-fit the rear axle back onto the car, does it automatically sit in the correct position & alignment once the leaf springs are bolted in place?

Agreed. There's a bolt through the centre of each trap spring which not only holds all of the leaves together but also fits snugly into a suitably sized hole in the saddle so as you tighten up the U bolts (evenly, ideally only one turn at a time on either end of each bolt 'til they're tightened to the correct torque setting), then the saddle has no option but to sit in the right place. You could introduce a variation in tiny fractions of a millimetre but you won't notice any crabbing and it'll remain perfectly safe. :)

Cool. I want to make sure any tail slides (unlikely as that is) are induced by me and nothing else!!
