I only saw the end , but i can imagine what the resto was like .. As for the value :lol: :lol: Sunroof reminded me of the Marcos at Gaydon Museum , (if you've seen it :( ) .. Gawd , they were so cool in the Eighties !!!!
Now, the Mark Evans E type , that was good !

Was the accident with the dangling GM IL6 engine staged for fun d'you reckon? Surely the Italian/Canadian wasn't really that useless at reversing. :?
It came out like a toffee apple but how much Cataloy would you say went into that shell before painting? :shock: OK, so the panel beater would clearly sooner have been somewhere else but even so.....

I saw the bloke in a couple of series on Quest (Bangladesh bangers and something else) and his credentials are supposed to be excellent. However, the bodge jobs on those cars frightened me (eg 4" wide wheel spacers on a live back axle on one car!). Strangely, when they sold the cars, they never reached their target values.

How did he fail to notice that the oil in the exhaust was from the other bloke "servicing" the carbs and spend "days" finding and fixing the problem? I knew as soon as the engine was started (I bet most of us did too). What oil do you put in a Stromberg dashpot anyway?

I'm not sure about "cleaning cylinders" and "repairing a chipped piston" either - there was no signs of engine removal or repair. I can't say that I liked the idea of using second-hand brake and suspension parts either.

When he was looking at the car and said it had a lot of filler and needed a new floor pan, it made me think it was going to take a lot of work; even with the right tools, it would take me the full month (probably more - but I'm slow) to get a "rusty" body repaired and sprayed - though I'd use a lot more than one coat of (decent) primer and would never park it outside for the paint to harden.

Now it's all "restored", I won't bother wasting the £1.50 phone call to try and win it - I can't afford to do the work to put it right! I suppose they do have an advantage with the series - they don't have to sell the car. It would have been interesting to see if they did get £30K for it in the real world!

£6500 for a bare metal respray, a re-trim and new chrome? And in London too? They must be queuing up at his door for those prices ;)

Carb oil....like matey on the show, anything you happen to have lying around :lol: well, that's always been my policy anyway.

It was essentially wheeler dealers but with an added team of visible mechanics, you don't see Ed China's grease monkey on WD although he's listed in the credits.

It was terribly researched- the E Type jag, the most advanced car of it's day.....really? Were the producers unaware of the Citroen DS? Or for that matter, the mini...... ? Both way more sophisticated than any Jag of the day.

And when he backed into that lump hanging on the hoist, how much lob was there on that valance!!! It must've been a quarter inch thick! It came away like chocolate on a cake :shock: And why oh why didn't they put a webasto in and add a bit of value! And did anyone else notice, that Herald was sat on that hoist for the whole of the show, so presumably it was perched up there for the whole of the 'two week' period....

It was scripted dross, filler and new paint doesn't make a restoration, and I have to seriously wonder about getting brake discs off the back of a flatbed that have been sat in the open for I don't know how long, how bloody irresponsible and dangerous is it to fit used brake components, and show it on TV??

There are far nicer E-Types out there for 30k, and I reckon anyone silly enough to pay any where near that for that example may like to consider getting professional help!

It made me laugh when he was moaning about the filler in it when he was trying to purchase it, yet later we see several shots of filler being filed to shape on pretty much every panel! :roll:

I have to question just what they got for their £6500, certainly no labour charges in it, and I very much doubt they work for free, I think we're all aware how much it costs to do the job properly, just look at the costs involved on the PC MK2 recently!

Hmm that's a thought, maybe PC should get the Westy finished by Bernie & Co, they'd save a fortune! :lol: :lol:

i got bored with it after the californian jag was turned down, watched star trek instead, much more realistic :D

I read the title saying "Channel 5" so knew it would be rubbish and didn't watch it at all ;)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.
