Ok who had a Mamod ?

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

:( Aww, I thought the title was referring to a real Ant, like this Mebea one:

Now that I would like to see with a steam engine strapped to it. Cugnot eat your heart out son. :D

I have the twin cylinder Mamod steam engine that came on its own base with the posts, pulleys and line shaft already attached. I did have the steam car for a while recently as I wasn't allowed one as a kid and bought one to restore when it appeared on eBay a couple of year ago. Trouble was that I restored it - and sold it within an hour of placing a BIN listing - to a bloke out in the States who picked up when he came to the region for his annual holidays. It took him one minute to pay the balance and three hours to play with it, just to make sure it was working properly of course.

I don't have a Mamod, but I do have this:

My 93-year old Dad had it when he was a kid, so it's pretty old. Came from Gamages, in Regents street, it still works just fine too!

I never did but wished I did at the time! I asked but obviously santa must've been skint! I always remeber at junior school in the sixties when it was end of term and we could take toys in, there was always somebody who bought one in and everyone gathered arond well impressed  Mind you, it was always the annoying rich kid who's Dad had a P6 or whatever  They're still expensive even now!

Which? They did singles and twins, with and without baseplates and lineshafts, in fact their catalogue of the time (1969, IIRCH) is somewhere in the roof, next time the home help's here when I'm in this place I'll point her to the loft ladder and send her up to retrieve all of the things that are either already sold, wanted for scanning as now or otherwise desirable to the old car fraternity locally.

Don't worry about the job description, I wrote that! :D

I didn't, Fischer Technic was my 'thing' still got it all to. However my older bro' had a Mamod Traction Engine. Green 'boiler', white canopy, black elsewhere except for red wheels IIRC. Parrafin burner. It is probably in the attic at my folks place.

I had a Mecano one (Made by Mamod). I did various things with it, the most interesting of which was to make a two speed gearbox (I only had enough cogs for that).
