Writing a good advert is all about the wording

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Writing a good advert is all about the wording

Look at the price and read carefully
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

The sad thing is that the winning clinical imbecile, sorry... "bidder" will probably complain to eBay about this but the seller started it at 99p and hasn't actually lied in the description.

I think that the listing speaks volumes about the people who just have to have the product, regardless of whether it's actually the best at the price. Which it most certainly.........

Noooooo! Fill the blank for yourselves, I'm far too big a chicken to risk having the foil hatters coming round here and firing their anti-Android missiles at my windows
there's probably a bloody app for that!
.
 Hmm, if that prosaic device's box is worth that amount, what would one get for one of the first edition HTC One-X boxes, complete with the inclusive Dr Dre headset box that wasn't included in the next batch off the line? Buy it now, £300 anyone?

I suspect a few people already have been surprised - check his "completed listings" and feedback record!!

I admit that I have been caught out on eBay on more than one occasion - but when I re-read the descriptions, they were usually my own fault. The worst was a loco I bought for my model railway. There was about a minute to go and no bidders; I got it for the opening bid, but only read the "title" as it takes a while to log on and bid. It was green, though it looked black in the (poor) photo and I wanted the black version. Reading the listing would have saved some annoyance! Especially as the recession was biting when I sold it (and lost £15 on the deal!). I couldn't complain about the seller though - the description clearly said it was green!

This is not unusual, iPhone boxes are often for sale and go for about £10 but for some reason people have gone mad on this one.

Not as mad as they went for one of his previous ones. Here and sold at £620! An iphone isn't worth that and even if the winning bidder had thought that they were getting the phone, they'd still have saved a couple of hundred pounds by buying one from a shop. :?

eBay must love these nutters, think of all the lovely final value fees they're taking out of the seller's overpriced bits of cardboard. Actually, scrub that, I'd forgotten that the boxes are empty.....

I think some people must be bidding after one or two glasses of alcaholic refreshment.
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Listed again and fetched £47.50, maybe they realised what they were bidding for that time!

Nowt new, seen it happen with Xbox and PS3 boxes, it pays to make sure you know exactly what you're bidding on!

Hmm, by that logic, if someone buys a cricket box on eBay.......
