Fuel Surge

#1 Post by MidgetSaab »

I have a problem when using the Midget on trackdays, in long left hand corners the engine goes very flat and dies. I've pretty much traced this to the cornering force holding the floats shut in the dashpots (came as a shock when it first happened, and to the guy behind me). This must have happened to others particularly in competition, any one know of a preferably cheap solution? I can't easily reorientate the floats so they're only held shut when braking, I've thought about fitting larger float chambers but have yet to investigate how easy this would be. Another option is the later type SU with the float chamber underneath the jet (HIF?).
Thankfully most circuits are clockwise in the UK, though I would like to have done the PC trackday but the anticlockwise nature put me off.
The Midget's a 1500. The floats seem to be correctly adjusted.
The car has no mechanical alterations other than K&N filters and rejetted to suit, the suspension has been lowered and stiffened so it corners pretty flat for a road car and i'm up 1/2" on tyre width, the standard set up didn't generate enough sideways force to cause the problem.
Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.
