1994 Range Rover
Re: 1994 Range Rover
Terry this is amazing stuff - from zero to hero in a few weeks, you've done a job to a high standard that many would have baulked at!

Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.
Re: 1994 Range Rover
No in progress pics today but I have welded in a new floor section and 3 sections on the side. It took longer than I had hoped again as forming the curve from floor to bulkhead was chalanging to get it to start and finish in the correct place and keep the correct arc plus I found (after I had made the panel) that I had cut slightly off square so had to make a 40cm long 1cm wide at one end and 1mm at the other triangle to fill in the gap.
Anyway, this is what it looks like welded up and painted. I have run out of seam sealer, etch primer and stone chip paint now so will have to make a trip out in the morning.

Re: 1994 Range Rover
This Rangie wants to think itself lucky you have it, I think anyone else would have scrapped it! It's a brave man who takes on that much
Re: 1994 Range Rover
I have thought about it on several occasions. I paid £700 for this something like 4 years ago knowing it had some problems down from the £1500 it was advertised at. If I had known they were this bad I would have haggled harder
. I have only ever seen one other soft dash brooklands LSE so if I did scrap this one I don't think it would be possible to replace it. That one was much worse than this is and being broken for spares.
I think the problems I have with the floor are caused by the rubbish mountings for the side skirts holding crud against the floor. As they have corroded to nothing I am going to have to design something better. Probably a similar design but with drain holes in it and remember to blast it out every so often hopefully to prevent a re-occurance. The scuttle damage was caused by Land Rover not ever having sealed the top of the seam but plenty of sealant on the bottom. Inner wings rot out because of the poor design of mounting for the arch liner, light boxes because there are no factory drain holes, etc, etc.
I love land rovers and they are REALLY good at what they do but the build quality is shockingly bad.

Re: 1994 Range Rover
Today I am royally forked off. It keeps raining so rather than doing any cutting / welding I started putting the interior back together (it is dry as a bone at the front
). 2 hours of reassembly and I walk in to the garage and see the sound deadening that goes behind the dash sitting neatly on the bench. After some choice words I shut the doors and went for a walk. in the rain. without a coat.
Now to go back outside and undo everything I have done so far today and do it with all the parts this time. ggggggrrrrrrrr................

Re: 1994 Range Rover
I think we've all done it at some point, refitted everything, only to stand back and notice something sat there that should have gone in first. Annoying, but that's sods law I'm afraid.
Re: 1994 Range Rover
Easily done Terry, it's a natural part of pre-senile dementia and ownership of classic vehicles so perfectly normal. Bit of a pisser though, ain't it.

Re: 1994 Range Rover
It was moderately irritating. Having calmed down I am now almost back to where I was just after lunch. I have got to get the heater and a/c re-reconnected which I will do in the morning then I can put the dash itself back in.

i had to change the kingpost on my jcb.. stripped all the parts replace everything only to be left with a 4 inch diameter bush.. dropped the pin back out & looked everywhere & couldnt find the place for it.. next day i rang the dealer who told me its the bit you put on the fireplace behind the clock.
