Why not just leave the valve connected?
I can't see anything in the official MoT manual that says the check engine light has to be extinguished, or working at all. I'm willing to be proved wrong though :)

New regs. that come in this year, I suspect these aren't reflected in the manual you are reading.

I'm using the fourth edition of the official manual, dated 1st January 2012, downloaded from here http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/d ... guides.htm

Well I thought it best to take the rear exhaust manifold off,
and see what the damage is.

For some reason It only took 20-30 min to remove it from the
car! I hope it goes back on just as easily.

I had a doctors appointment in the afternoon, so I put
everything away and when I came back it has been showers
every so often so no further work done.

I will drill and tape the manifold tomorrow.

Well the local car parts stores don't sell the bits to make your own spark
plug leads up so it's down the bay of E again.

£11.98 (inc postage) spark plug wire crimping jaws (to be used with a vise

£12.71 (inc postage from Fort Wayne, IN., United States) 8 Cylinder 7 MM
Spark Plug Wire Boot Kit (black)

I'll measure up for the wire tomorrow.

Other purchases I made off the bay of E were;

£3.69 (inc postage) T4W Wide Angle White LED Side Lights Bulbs (pair)

£8.60 (inc postage) 1 x 250White Tyre Wall Paint

I thought that either way those white wall tyre flaps need a coat to
freshen them up. And the side lights filament bulbs aren't as good as they
should be so shitching them to LEDs

As it was a nice fine day, I drilled and tapped the hole which
the bolt had snapped off in. Only for the replacement bolt to
do the same!

Image

This time I drilled the hole bigger and didn't bother tapping it.

Image

A nut and bolt job, with plenty of exhaust assembly paste.

Image

I spent a few hours putting the manifold back on. the nut for
the side pipe connection to the rear manifold was the worst!

I ended up jacking the car up and lifting it as high as possible
so I could get under and tackle that problem nut.
While I was under under there I plugged in the speed sensor,
the power steering switch, and right abs sensor.
I hope I got the abs sensor and the power steering switch the
right way around.

As it was raining I couldn't do anything outside, but look what came
in the post this morning. After looking through the listings on ebay
for compatible washer bottle pumps, I thought a readily available and
cheap new one might fit.

So a washer pump used on fords look about right.

FORD ESCORT/ORION/FIESTA/FOCUS FRONT WINDSCREEN WASHER PUMP

Ebay £5.50 inc postage

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180742024760? ... 1439.l2649

Image

As I walked past the car to the tool shed to put the stuff in the shed
out of the way. I tried the washer pump in the bottle as the bumper is
still off, perfect fit. So just need to sort the elecctrical plug out as I
damage it(don't ask!))

1 x 250White Tyre Wall Paint Classic Car

Ebay £8.60 inc postage

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110567443388? ... 1439.l2649

Image

Something to try on the back of one of the 16" white wall tyre flaps
tomorrow in the shed out of the rain.

Then there is this!!
ELM327 v1.5 Bluetooth Mini Small Interface OBD2 Scanner

Ebay £7.38 inc postage from china (hope it works!)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180869652454? ... 1439.l2649

And what happens? after all the bluetooth dongles I've bought from
the pound shop O can't find one!!!
When I do find a dongle I might try it out on mothers 1998 Volvo
V70 T5 which has had a service but the service light is staying on
fot=r a good few minutes after startup.

Those cloned adapters from HK work but you'll need to download and install this A.P.K. and it's worth paying for the licence as the free version is OK, but can FC under load, especially if your machine doesn't have BT3.

That scanner won't re-set the service light. ;)

Looks like I will have to get an emulator as I don't have anything running on android.
