As I was going to need another stereo adapter plate for the neon as I would to need modify it so
I could have switches like before but with a different lpg switch. It looka like that there already
is stereo adapter plate for Chrysler vehicles which is already designed the way I was going to
modify a neon adapter plate! So it saves me messing around, and I just need to drill the holes
for the switches.
So no need to be messing around with razor blades, hack saw blades, bumper filler and plastic dip
like I had to the last time!

Search for something similar to Chrysler (or dodge)Stereo Adaptor

These are upside down sorry!

Looks ok but then what about the vents if you need or ant some air?

Well there are a further 2 vent at each end of the dash board, and a larg one infront on top
of the dash which is supposed to be just for the windscreen.

So that would possibly give the following gauges

1.Engine Oil temp
2.Engine Oil Pressure
3.Gearbox Oil Temp
4.LPG fuel Level
5.Volt meter?
6.AMP?

And the gauges are inter changeable so I could fit what I want and where in the units!
(or swap out the bust gauges)

Please tell me what you think of this and what could be done with the larger 4 gauge unit!

Oh and more fault finding with plug identification done.

I wouldn't bother with an ammeter; if only because it means taking long lengths of beavy cable into the passenger compartment, increasing the risk of fire (if the connections are anything like the ones on the Land Rover's) and voltage drop.

To be honest, I gave up with extra gauges as I never seemed to look at them (though an oil pressure gauge or a sensible warning light would be wise on a modern VW!). Remember that vents are there for a reason - especially on a dark car! I would hate to get into the Golf on a hot day and not be able to cool off quickly - I tried that earlier this summer (as the car lives outside at the moment) and was really glad I had got the air-con sorted in the spring - and that it works well on full power!

I would agree, oil pressure is one thing I miss on modern cars, and with the thin oils and fancy fuel efficient oil pumps they seem to be suffering more and more oil pressure issues.

After the fiasco I had with one person at Newton's Scrapyard for a seat bottom cushion, I
called and asked what the price was for a full seat! I only got told £15 but when I got there
and I spoke to someone else they said see the owner so I got told £10 per front seat and
£5 for the rear base cushion.

So I went for Volvo V70 mk2 seats as there were 3 v70 mk2s and no earlier stuff! They will
need a good clean and if leather a ffed as I think they were once black not dark grey!

The front seats

What is this on the passenger headrest?

The rear base cushion with some of the same black covering off one of the seats
(I will need a bit more for recovering the neon rear seat)

After Charlie Newton got one of the lads to give me a hanf move the seats to the gates I asked
What the steering columns go for, after putting the sears in the back of mother's astra I went
back in for round 2!

I picked up for a tenner a fully adjustable steering colum from the same volvo!

I will be feeling the backlash tomorrow with my body!
The front seats will still need to be taken apart as there is an airbag in the outer side of the seat
backs. I can take the blanks of the other volvo seats I already have. The driver's seat I will switch
the cushion over as the base is already set up for the neon. The pockets along the front of the
seats will be removed first!

Scratch the AMP gauge from the list so that is now down to 5 or 4 if I drop the volt gauge!

1.Engine Oil temp
2.Engine Oil Pressure
3.Gearbox Oil Temp.......Might need a separate sensor rather than taping into the gearbox
................................harness as it could affect the signal the tcu reads!
4.LPG fuel Level
5.Volt meter?

Wednesday

Well it took a little time getting the horn/airbag off the volvo steering wheel. Just because
it had holes foe the long reach socket to go in it didn't mean the holes lined up with the
bolts!

The steering wheel was goosed so I cut the rubber off to get access to the bolts. Steering
wheel off and the ignition barrel smashed off with a big hammer!

Here is a neon steering column(possibly a mk2) as a referance.

Image

The idea if I can later on, is to use neon shafts with an adapted volvo tubeing.
I had forget my large torque rench, and left it at Newtson's Scrapyard when removing the
steering column. A quick call and sure enough they found it and put it in the office for me to
collect on thursday, which was very kind of them.

Thursday

Back up to Newton's scrapyard, first to collect the 18inch long torque wrench. Then I asked
about the rest of the rear seat and parcail front seat off nefore. Only to be told that the car
had been crushed the day befor, with one perfect passenger seat and half a drivers seat worn
of matereal I could have used!

Taking no chances I set about dismantelling the rear seats of the volvo estae I had getten the
2 front deats from(as same materal) removing the covers then removing the metal stays so the
covers could be carefully rolled up and made easier to carry. A quick stop by to see Mr Newton,
I did make sure that I told him that I didn't need the full seat so had left the metal/alloy frame
on place which I think pleased him. And he only charged me a fiver for the matereal as he said
that I had getten the base on tuesday I wasn't getting charged for the full seat (and I wasn't
going to argue) I made sure I had not forgotten my tools this time!

Apart from the neon base cushion and the volvo rear base and front driver's cushions a lot of what you
see is from today's haul! (The black is the rear arm rest which was in the seat)

Image

Image

Acomparison between two base cushions, mk2 neon beige and volvo black(faded)

Image

The back of the front seat is more pleasing than that off the rear so that idea will be used.

Image

I pealed back only one side of the mk2 neon cushion and it has velcro to hold the materal seam
in place compared to where the same on the volvo cushion would be metal stays and hog ringed
to the base!

Image

I think I could cut into the cushion to give the same style as that of the volvo's and strengthen
by going through the base into a rod I could secure underneath!

Image

Image

Image

I got out the black marker for a rough workout of how things would look/go with the neon cushion.
I don't like the totally cut corner on the volvo rear base cushion and it isn't as extreme on the front
so I will go with the front not the rear!

Well, that is the bad weather side of the car project organised(I hope!)
If the weather stays good I will need to take the good volvo drivers seat apart to remove the air bag,
as I don't want to deploy them when I think I'm wiring up the heated seats which I think these front
ones are!

Warm bum and back on a cold winter, nice!

Some three of the Volvos I've owned came with heated seats that still worked and disconnecting these was always among the first things I'd do because one seat fire was enough and as the seat ages, so the layer of insulation becomes more brittle and then it only takes one fat sod like me to sit on it and, well, the consequences would have been worse had that happened these days but back then, I was able to undo the seat belt, open the door and get the hell out of there before my "roast" roasted for real! Then there's the fact that the sudden warmth from beneath only serves to make the occupant of that seat think they've had a little bladder-related incident, not good and a sensation most unbecoming of someone still in their 40s. :x

The heated seats were one of the first things I fixed in my RR. I also have remote start so if I remember to put the seat and screen heaters on when I get out the night before, I can start it when there is snow on the ground 5 minutes before I need to leave and it is already nice and warm ready for me to drive off. Modern seat heaters are pretty safe as rather than a wire element they use a carbon pad and should have 2 layers of protection built in.
I think I should design a circuit to trip the seat and screen heaters with the remote start. That's a project for when I have finished welding (estimated 2025)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Yes I had forgotten about the roasted nuts feeling/emptying blader feeling!

I did retro fit the seats of a mk I Mondeo with mk2 heated seats and the heat was wonderfull
for my painful back. And quicker than any painkiller in the relief from the pain of my back!

However I do see where you are coming from, I hadn't realised that the seats had the heater
built in as I thought that the wiring was all air back a bums on seats sensors.

Plus the dash/centre console had been stripped by someone else so I hadn't even though t
about it as a option!

I'm with you on the circuit breaker/surf protection ice for the heater eliments Terry. And at
least you can weld Terry so it shouldn't be as late as 2016perhaps?
