Could have sworn I placed an update to this :S

The garage have had a look at the main and big end bearings. The cam, followers and bearings. They are all like new.
New oil cooler hoses have gone on as one helpfully burst while it was on the ramp giving the workshop floor some lubrication. You wouldn't believe how much cooler hoses cost!
Job for this weekend is to strip back all the electronics and run it as a bare engine on LPG ignoring all the Lucas parts. If setting it up properly with that gives no problems and a reasnoble idle then time to reconnect them all then unplug them indipendantly to see what makes it behave.
I have tested the lambdas, MAF, throttle pot and stepper. They are all within range but no guarantee that they are telling the truth i suppose.
Replaced all the HT bits just in case including the coil.

Fingers crossed i'll have a working car before my bank manager calls.

OK, todays jobs: replace lambdas, maf, temp, fuel temp, throttle pot and stepper with ones from a working car. problem remains.
To compound it my EAS and T/C have decided to misbehave now. I think someone is trying to tell me it is time for a new car :S

Going to use the workshop on the farm one evening in the week. There is gas there so i can heat up the stuck bolts to get my rear calipers off and remove the hubs to get the wheel sensors out and replace them.

Then work up the enthusiasm to pull my EAS driver off and bung on a spare to see if that makes it behave.

OK, EAS problem was a failed thermal cutout switch. I have bypassed it temporarily while i rebuild my spare pump. I won't do any miles other than to-from the MOT station until this is sorted as i don't fancy an electrical fire with a toasted motor under my car!

Amazingly I think I have found the cause of my oil pressure problem. Weirdest cause in the history of weird causes.
I did various things today, fitted a 3rd new oil pressure switch in case the other 2 new ones were faulty (they all behave in the same way)
Being annoied with working under the car I took my K&N out to clean it. Nice clean filter so before i put it back on i thought i would clean the rest of the intake system as well as the filter. I took the top of my plenum off to clean out the LPG residue that has built up over the last year or so since i was in there last. Trumpets all nice and clean, base all shiny. I turned the cover over to clean inside that and saw that my butterfly was bent! A good 5/6 degrees of bend out on the bottom. I have no idea what has happened to cause that. It hasn't backfired in at least 2 years since uprating the LPG system. Anyway, ignoring the cause for now, I have 2 spare complete engines in the garage so pinched the plenum cover from my parts 4.2. Crappy idle is now ice smooth 800rpm. Right at the top end of "normal". HUGE improvement. Warm it up for 20 minuites, bung it in drive and the idle drops 50rpm. No more flickery light.
I need to take it out for a run and get it properly hot to check but regardless another fault (i didn't know i had) off the list.
Unfortunately my MOT expired on Wednesday and I couldn't take it down with it's EAS problem. Booked in for next Saturday. Fingers crossed for a pass so i get my toy back for the winter!
