spring removel,superminx

hi,
any one got any experiance of removing front springs on a 62 superminx?
do you have to drop bottom wishbone off the ball joint and unbolt anti-roll bar? is the bar easy to bolt back on or a bast.....!?!

Hi Chris, you'll need a special spring compressor which passes through the centre of the spring, after you have removed the shock absorber, you then have to remove the bottom wishbone completely, not an easy job! I made a tool for my Alpine, you could borrow it if you wish, but you'll have to collect it.

thanks, i've got hold of a basic manual which shows a spring compresser that goes through centre of spring, looks easy to make.

never done a minx, but i've done a granada, and top tip, make sure the BJ's are split before you start, as they are a bugger to do afterwards.

My tool was just a length of shuttering bar, a shuttering bolt and a shuttering plate with a tube welded to one end so the shock bolt could be kept in place...really easy when you look at the job needing to be done.

hi,
spring removal is easy, jack up, put on axle stand under chassis rail, remove wheel.
remove shock absorber, undo antiroll bar bolts and push it outa the way.
undo bottom ball joint, quick tap with hammer releases taper.
put jack under bottom wishbone take weight of spring, undo ball joint nut and remove, lift off hub etc and swing to side(still connected to top joint) then slowly release jack down, remove jack. push bottom wishbone down then just lift spring out. simples!!!!

second one was lot easier than first!!! even though it was a castleated nut with split pin that needed drilling out compared to nylock on first one!.
