Simple but this is pretty much how I remember I did it ...

I only found two were gone .. one completely dead and the other dying .. but why it should affect the car when running who knows!

Thanks mate! Now I have to adjust the fan belt as the alternator squeals like a stick pig...

Re: clio diesel
Update on the clio.. sort of...
It's been sat in the barn for quite a few years now. I'm using it to teach the kids to drive.. now I'm using the truck again for work and spending 120 a week on fuel I'm wondering if its a good idea to buy a knackered kangoo van and swap the engine over.. is there anything I should be worried about? Or is it a straight forward job..
Thanks for any advice...

Re: clio diesel
Sort of update.. Clio hasn't been started in 18 months or more, I think I pushed it in the barn last time I moved it..
Anyway, as my dream of having an interesting car in the collection has been put on hold by kids, house renovations and the wife usually saying no
I decided today to get a battery on it to see if it would start.. but no, starter spins but is sticking.. I tried talking to it and some minor violence with the hammer but still no.. out it came which is an interesting job to be polite.. starter is on the back of the engine under the turbo etc.. the starter was new about 2 years before I took it off the road.. I've tested it with a battery and it spins and after a bit of a tap it's engaging. So I'll try it again soon and hopefully get it on the road if the electrical pixies can be dealt with

Re: clio diesel
I took the starter motor off again with the usual amount of swearing and lost skin, and tested it. Bendix gear wasn't moving so gave it good clean and then tested it again and it worked perfectly twice. After that It refused.. I took the solenoid off and the plastic lever thing wasn't connected properly.. popped it all back together and it worked.. several tests and then finally fitted it again.. a quick test and the car started first time in over 2 years.
I drove out of the barn took it to shed, fitted all the air filter and associated bits .. I washed the thick layers of dust and recent pigeon crap (bob the racing pigeon has decided to join the family)
Yesterday I put some fresh diesel in and the kids had a driving lesson in the field which includes several stalls so starter was well tested.. just need to get the eml light problem solved and find out the cause of the immobilizer fault which took it off the road in the first place.. I think that's a job for someone who knows what they're doing

Could it be that simple? Bearing in mind I've had the battery off lots of times.. it's an intermittent problem...

Re: clio diesel
A mechanic came and checked the fault codes, there's so many! Looks like the injectors are faulty there's an airbag fault.. not forgetting the ignition barrel not recognising the key every so often...
Re: clio diesel
Make sure his code reader is compatible. I had a garage and the AA tell me my high pressure pump was the issue. Then it was the glow plug relay ... change of relay did nothing.
Turned out to be two very duff glowplugs. (Diagnosed with multimeter in the end)
Renault used the PSA diagnostic which isn't as compatible as it should be.

Re: clio diesel
Thanks. The machine he brought was from his garage. I'll check with my little code reader too
