Is this too far gone?
Re: Is this too far gone?
I would of said go for it.......untill i saw the chassis, sure its dooable but do you need this kind of hassle.

Re: Is this too far gone?
As long as the MOT man is prepaired to accept those cable ties as an apropriate structural repair
I have asked some land rover people too and they are saying that it to be safe it should have a new chassis. As much as i like proving people wrong the advice seems to be to leave it

I was flicking through the current (or previous) issue of Classic Cars mag the other day and one of the upmarket dealers had a 2 door RR for sale which had undergone a £73,000 restoration. Yes you did read that right, seventy-three thousand pounds

I'm sure it could be welded up safely, but once a chassis gets that bad you'll be chasing holes adding more patches for every MOT. BTDT, which is why I say this one's not worth bothering with.

That must be the one. I didn't know it had royal history which explains the restoration. They also had a pre-production 'Velar' RR for sale, probably at an equally silly price.Willy Eckerslyke wrote:This one?rich608 wrote:I was flicking through the current (or previous) issue of Classic Cars mag the other day and one of the upmarket dealers had a 2 door RR for sale which had undergone a £73,000 restoration. Re: Is this too far gone?
I think it's quite a viable project - even better if you could come across a decent S/H chassis - none the less the one that's there is restorable - earlyish 2 doors are getting into strong money now and this at present is peanuts - all outer panels are bolt on - mig welding with a decent machine (£300 ish) is easy enough - there are loads of self help guides / videos via youtube etc - even better if you can get your head around TIG welding - then you can repair the alloy outer panels as well - compared with the welding marathon I have on our teams project Jowett Javelin at present - this RR is straightforward - MHO - Go for it. If all else fails it's worth £500 + in parts alone.

Now nearly 10 hours left, not even passed £300 yet... Depends on how much last minute interest there is I suppose.
…that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today.

If it stays around £300 then i'll probably grab it. If i do then i may be coming home with a replacement chassis on the roof rack tomorrow
