Oh yeah and.
when I got my jeep it had bull bars light guards and spot lamps. Which I removed. The Jeep looks much better with out it. Also I peeled of all the decals.
Actually, if you want to be pedantic, The XJ's weren't the first Cherokees in the UK. AMC gave the Euro market a go between about '79 and '83. Sold quite a few CJ's and SJ's. Which are J-Trucks (J10 and J20's), Grand Wagoneers, and Cherokee's).
I have owned 4 of the FIRST Jeep SJ Cherokee's, still have an '82. I think of the XJ as the Mk2 and Mk3 Cherokee.
I have had to revise my value estimate on me Cherokee. Top gear paid £250 for a Mk3 . Mk3 is from UK Jeeper.
Mine is a Mk2. LTD High output jobbie. So I guess £250. It really doesn't matter because who gives a **** about car values. After 10 years I have had me monies worth and the car is still good. If I fill the tank up the car will be worth a 3rd more.
I liked the camouflage paint work that the wee guy had done to the jeep. Mine is dark met. green. The camouflage would look good with clear coat.
Local to me is an A3 with camouflage in blues and black and white with clear coat and it looks good.
There's a camouflage design called dazzle. The Royal Navy used it. One couldn't tell which way the ship was going or the heading.
I could use sticky back plastic blue peter style.
I don't actually drive much in the last 6 months 0 miles. So I shall not bother with doing anything. I don't miss driving. Nowadays its 20 mph in town. Any faster and one just catches up the next traffic jam.
A mate had a Jeep like yours 4 door though. It was an ok motor.
I was surprised at 250 for a 1997 XJ mk2. Nice colour blue. I am not sure about the trim level. It had aircon. Mine has leather. My wife won't have a car unless its leather. Leather always works better than cloth. Leather cleans up better.
Mind you I don't use the electric mirrors or electric seats or cruise control and would even be happy with manual windows. So a lot of the extras are lost on me.
The most stupid extra is the compass. It may be useful in desert or wilds. But in the UK no use. Besides if I needed a compass I would get a proper accurate one.
Going off road is generally illegal in Dorset or tresspass.
I have never had to use 4 wheel drive. I dont want to get mud on the tyres no no no.
A good thing about beam axles is that the geometry of the suspension and steering wears tyres evenly. £70 each..
Also the XJ Cherokee is not to big. Some 4x4 are huge and tall.
A local guy with a 4 litre jeep jacked up the suspension and put big tyres on it. It fell over on a roundabout.
Anyway as I said if you don't do many miles and can't afford a Range Rover then the 4 litre Cherokee is an option and a £1000 buys a very good one. The Cherokee is not the sort of car you buy with things wrong because parts are expensive and there are plently around that haven't got things wrong with them.
