Rear fog lamp

#1 Post by History »

My car 1974 has no rear fog lamp.

So I am going to put a red led bulb into the offside reverse lamp. Then I can remove the stupid looking pendant red lamp hanging off the rear bumper.

Should I need more lighting in reverse I shall just turn on the rear fog as well.

The bulb is £12 -15. Led is best because of heat, the lens might melt.

Neat idea, Bob, but make sure to measure the distance between the indicator lamp filament above and the stop/tail lamp filaments below as the distances between these doesn't look sufficient to meet the appropriate regulation which stipulates that the filaments of other lamps when fitted in a shared cluster must be at least four inches from a rear fog lamp. Also, the lens of a rear fog lamp must be written up with the specific type approval number for that device, a reverse lamp lens needs no such marking nor a pattern so tread carefully, nobody wants you to be hassled by the cops.
OK, so you'd be unlucky to be given a ticket for this but if you happened upon a bored Polis who hadn't had a bite all day... ;)

The cops aren't that picky. They get picky when people fail the attitude test by being rude to the cops. I address the cops as sir. I should think the average cop doesnt know the details. Also maybe because the 1974 and therefore the fog is not a testable item for the mot then maybe its not an issue

No, they'd measure from the closest to the edge in each cluster.

In any case if the cops do pick it up then its a fix it ticket. A simple disconnect the bulb on the spot and its fixed.

I got the idea from mate. His rear end is neater than mine.

I hate junk fitted to cars. The original design is effected.

Less is more sort of thing. My car has a logo at the front and rear. No model name, no engine size, no V8 badges. Just the logo. The model name is hidden under the bonnet.

I like that. Less is more.
