Do you want From the Humber up over to join Scotland?

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

I pass where his ashes were scattered on my way to work. I will post a picture of the monumment but here are a few pictures showing the area.

This picture is taken just inside Powys (Or Breconshire as it was in Bevan's day). It's about five miles north of Tredegar town centre and was a place where Bevan would take a walk. The trees are near the watershed between the Sirhowy valley and the Usk system (This is where the monument stands). This is very much on the border of what was industrial south Wales and rural mid Wales.

This is looking back down the Sirhowy valley towards Tredegar. Bevan's memorial was behind me when this was taken.

Looking down into Cwm Pyrgad, which runs into Duffryn Crawnon, which flows into the Usk at Llangynidr. It's about five hundred feet down into the top of the Duffryn and that valley drops another five hundred feet in the five miles of it's length. The Usk valley, on the other hand, drops only four hundred feet in thirty miles or so to the sea. Like the Wye and Severn, it flows more gently west to east, before swinging south down into the Bristol Channel.

The Aneurin Bevan stones, on the watershed between the Sirhowy and Ebbw valleys. It's about half a mile from my house and on the opposite side of the road to the garage where I get my MOTs - http://sirhowygarage.co.uk/. They have an MGA, Healey 100/6 and a Frogeye Sprite. Oddly enough, it was the first place I got petrol for the Midget, as it was nearly empty when I bought it. The pumps have long gone.

Amyl Nitrate is a rather good substance for use in diesel fuel, at least was, it helps ignition particularly in small model engines. If I recall correctly it was replaces with Iso propol nitrate? small % used 1 or 2 IIRC with lots of either paraffin and caster? oil

There's no way I'd want to be part of Scotland! I've nothing against the Scots. They can do their own thing. If anything, there should be an independent Yorkshire Republic

What part of the word 'UNITED KINGDOM' do people that reside on the fair isle not understand ? - rather than attempt to draw new boundaries and boarders throughout this historic country you could always consider quietly just shuffling off to some foreign land and exploit your thoughts elsewhere
(I have been attempting to do just that in Sawth of the UK since I left my wonderful homeland of Yorkshire 30 years ago - but they rarely listen to me) - Rich is a lot braver than me - he moved across the water to exploit his Englishness on the froggies :o

mr grumpy, you should be standing for the next pm..the uk is a tiny dot on this planet, we need less bloody politicians not more of them.. when i see the money that was wasted on the welsh & scottish parliaments it makes me a tad evil.. 2 more lots af shysters to waste my hard earned money with "allowences" to run their offices etc on top of the salary that they all recieve.. i never got any of that back in blighty when i ran my buisness.... now they are saying the westminster parliament is falling down & will need 3 billion to rebuild it (i might quote for that  ) sell the thing off to some quatari for a new hotel/house & relocate the scrounging mps to somewhere where house prices etc are cheap..
