Is it just me or is this new series even more about Tim Shaw pratting about instead of being about car restoration? :cry:

I watch it catch on up and fast forward through his clowning around, I would rather see a bit more of the resto work.

My point exactly! So much time is wasted with TS pratting about and over-long coverage of handing back the car at the end that the restoration work hardly gets a look in.

How anyone can think that Car SOS is better than Wheeler Dealers in any respect (apart, of course, from the presence of Workshop Phil) is beyond me!

Anyone who watches both can see it pretty clearly as it happens.

You'd never find any Catty in rust holes on cars worked on by Fuzz! Edd, on the other hand, ground down the worst of the external showing of rot through the wingtips on the Benz SL that they "restored" in Wheeler Dealers, filled the holes with the stuff and then painted it over. Fuzz would have cut out the rust beyond any remaining corrosion, made a properly fitted patch and welded it in flush.
Fuzz would only use the polyester stuff in its correct rôle; to build up the very slightest of imperfections on a completely solid stretch of metalwork prior to laying on the primers.
Fuzz is yer actual "old school" craftsman and a pukka engineer. Edd seems like a likeable enough sort but his work, time and again, has been of the short term variety, throwing together a job to get the finish on: That Cataloy in the Merc's wingtips, the frankly horrible patch in the floor of the Alfa Spider, the barely adequate amount of the mini Moke's punt section that was roughly patched for the necessary MOT standard repair, the Cataloy in the screen pillar area of the Mazda, the fitting of the cage and other completely shan add-ons to the Suzuki 4x4 that was then presented for test only to fail spectacularly as someone hadn't even spotted the severe structural corrosion when they were a few inches away from it fitting that gas bottle, etc.

Sorry, but while Edd means well and is tirelessly enthusiastic, of the two men, it would only be Fuzz to whom I'd entrust any car that I wasn't dealing with myself. Mike and Edd are the Laurel & Hardy to Fuzz & Tim's Pete & Dud. No comparison!

I would, however, compare Fuzz and Tim on equal terms to Ade & Phil on "For the love of cars", as that show also features one talented engineer and one entertainer to add the light relief without being any less than competent in their own right.
Speaking of which; ex-Police SD1 tomorrow evening; 8pm on STV & Tyne-Tees and this series is looking better than the first because this time, we see the result each week rather than having to wait for one episode dedicated to the auction visits.

I suspect someone else did the work , but wheeler dealers BMW bubble car was OK :thumbs: . Mark Evans series of car programmes was top notch quaility

There are three main skill sets required for car restoration. Mechanics, fabrication and finishing (Paint). It is very unusual to find anyone with all three. Edd China is a mechanic. Fuzz is a fabricator. Brewer is an idiot. This reflects in the nature of the programme you will watch.

Mark Evans is unusual in that, as an amateur, he has a go at all aspects of restoration and gets help as required.

If you wanted to be pedantic, you could add interiors to the list - upholstery, trimming, carpeting - as an extra group. Probably not good telly though.

Agreeing about Mr Evans. Could there be another person anywhere who's suitably skilled to restore your Boxster and castrate your Boxer? :oops:
