Hello. Anyone going to Mille Miglia this year?

Here's the place to chat about all things classic. Also includes a feedback forum where you can communicate directly with the editorial team - don't hold back, they'd love to know what they're doing right (or wrong of course!)

Hello. Anyone going to Mille Miglia this year?

#1 Post by 88mph »

Hi. I've just bought a 'practical classic' and want to do something brilliant with it.
Early days, just thinking things over.
Now the Delorean is MOT'd, how about seeing how famously unreliable the Delorean is?
How about a nice little 'Grand Tour' to Roma.........

You can join in with the other £10,000,000 motors in the famous road rally. The Alps, Italian lakes, Pasta, wine, beautiful girls & classic cars.... Bella! :D

Anyone been? Anyone going? Any advice?

Yes: DO IT!

Unreliable? Surely any of the issues these had when they were current would by now have been redesigned out with the benefit of hindsight and an engineer who cares whether the job's good enough. I've only ever drooled near to one of these, never had the pleasure of a ride in one, but that V6 works fine in Volvo 260s and some French things so what could possibly go wrong?

Well done for owning an interesting, different and rather stylish -(IMHO)- car.

Thanks chaps, I'm going to like it here! ;)
I'd never seen one in real life at all until I bought this unseen on US Ebay......

But absolutely loving it. Got lucky, seller was as honest as they come & had fitted lots of new/refurb'd parts, Suspension/Exhaust/brakes/hoses/waterpump/fuel system etc etc. Ex-Nevada car, so no chassis rust (the rest of it can't rust) but plenty of sun-bleaching to painted areas and interior.

While it was a runner, Have really enjoy working out its little faults. Great feeling wondering why some feature doesn't work & after an hour or two coming across the loose/bad connector and vulllareee this or that works for the first time in 20 years!!!

As to the look, can you get a more unique, recognisable car? The Italian design, the stainless steel, the gull wing doors, the odd sized wheels are all bonkers and brilliant.
The history, the drama of the company's short life, it will never happen again.
Have only driven it on the road twice, (its not registered) MOT and MOT retest. I've had older & actual rarer car but nothing can touch the reaction a Delorean gets. Petrol stops can take 30 minutes. There is no bitterness, just smiles, questions & photos.

Plus what other car has got its own theme tune............

Was the restest due to the flux capacitor being missing? (sorry)
I think every child of the 80s wants to own a Delorean, congratulations on finding an interesting car that gets so many smiles per gallon :)

Great video clip, shame the guy didn't film himself trying to tune the radio. ;)

Rich, does the tape include "Medical Love Song?" That and "Sit On My Face" are very fine pieces of music and among my favourites for playing during a pleasure hurl along a deserted Highland road at dead of night. :|
