I`m wondering if it was ever an approved rust repair to remove a rotten section and replace it with new metal fibre glassed in place. The original panel was not treated ( or poorly treated) and neither was the new metal so the old panel rusts away from the "repair" and the new metal quickly takes on the patina of an old car....
Didn`t think so.
Only found the 4th such repair on my Herald

Re: Interesting repairs
Other repairs include:
Moulded black bitumen (hard) sealer
Newspaper (couldn`t see any date)
Wouldn`t mind but other repairs are welded!

Re: Interesting repairs
At least fiberglass and newspaper are easy to remove, there is nothing worse than hacking patches welded over rust off, on the minor there were 4 layers in some places.

Re: Interesting repairs
Our MM Minor Convertible was sold because the floors were rotten and, a month or two later, a parishioner appeared with it and was surprised at the reason for selling it - the floors were immaculate. Another short while passed before he appeared again to tell Father that the new floors were carpet felt and Bitumastic, which had come off during the winter weather!
The bottoms of the B pillars on the Rover 60 I bought were mainly newspaper and filler. I discovered that when I opened the back doors for the first time!

I bought a minor traveller quite a while ago which had Perspex sills painted with waxoil. It is amazing the bodges you find.
mind you to stop my feet getting wet in the range before I could afford to fix it properly I fibreglass bodge patched the scuttle to get through the winter. As soon as I could afford to I fixed it properly though and I would certainly not have sold it like that without telling the new owner.
