My off the shelf stainless system including the manifolds was about £500, i spent another £100 on having the back box customised. (all plus VAT)
£900 for a fully bespoke system sounds pretty good

John, where are you based? Last year I took my dad's shed of a Subaru estate to a place in the Midlands that did a whole stainless system for about £300. They specialise in stainless systems IIRC and only took a couple of hours - they make bespoke stuff all the time and it seemed pretty good.
how you looked on Burton Power the ford specialist they sell DIY exhaust pipes I.e s-bends and silencers too all in stainless in 3 difference sizes might be worth getting a catalogue guys as you never know when you might need a 2in stainless to 3in pipe.
got a stainless system made for my car by Longlife - they have dealers nationwide. They fitted my new cooper 3 into 1 manifold to my Morris 1300, (giving it a tweak or two to make it fit), and then spent a whole afternoon bending and tweaking the new exhaust around the gearchange, and building the back box. Result - a perfectly tailored system, guaranteed for life, for £250 quid. Plymouth branch, where i had mine done, were brilliant. Went back recently to get some exhaust bits i'd bought for my girlfriends viva tweaked to fit - couple of quid for the tea fund was all they asked..
OK - Burtons excellent website led me to Jetex (they are Jetex dealers). I'm sorry Burtons - but Jetex is closer to me and I wanted to get on with it - so I travelled to Jetex in Stratford Upon Avon today (in my "everyday" car) and a very helpful chap sorted me out with the bits I need (hopefully) for around £175. These are mild steel not stainless but I didn't really need stainless.
I have previously used a company in Swindon called Bell silencers who were excellent and sourced parts I was told were obsolete - I believe they will make systems too, well worth a go.
