Is it ok to prime over the top of the Electrophoretic coatings common on new panels.
I'm fitting new sills and thinking about brushing on a couple of coats of epoxy mastic?
Electrophoretic paint
Re: Electrophoretic paint
I've always found that coatings don't stick very well to that stuff, so I've always removed it and used proper etch primer. I might well be wrong though......
Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.

No, its like teflon.. get it all off and etch prime bare steel
. I stupidly scuffed it up ,primed and painted , and it all came off in flakes leaving the scuffed up black..Wear a mask when sanding it , it's 'orrible stuff

^^^What they say!
Even more so if there are chips and marks on the new paint. I read somewhere (maybe on this forum) that the paint was only to protect the new metal during transit and storage and is not designed as a "for life" protective coating.

Now I'm paranoid. I just scuffed it up with a scotch pad and put 2 coats of Frost chassis black over it. I'm sure I'll find out in January if any of the paint is still on :S

I use 'T' wash an acid wash, conditioner for coatings like this and galvanising got it years ago and it works! Before I used it I had painted galvanised steel with Hammerite.
