Selling a desirable car
Selling a desirable car
I have here, a car to sell . It has some issues , but a new mot , lets say it needs 15k ( with a specialist doing the work) thrown at it , to make it A1 ,but not quite concours. Other similar cars are selling at around 35k + ( and rising) ,in a showroom - so is mine worth 20k as it is ? It would break for 15k . At least ,if it was bought and done up the buyer would know he had a perfect car ?

That is one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions.
It's just my opinion but if it is your own car it will be worth less than the showroom price as there is no comeback on a private seller so people will pay a bit more retail. Plus if it needs 15k it will probably need 20 by the time you have started the work and found something else so it is more realistically 10-15.

Based on the make/model, I think that your price assessment is reasonable but I suspect the longer you leave it without addressing these issues, the more likely the price of parts rise thus increasing the cost of restoration. It seems to be a trend these days.
