Heatproof glue for glass

#1 Post by Luxobarge »

OK, it's not a classic car related tech query, but there's some clever folk on here who will probably be able to help, so please forgive....

A friend's electric oven door is loose (AEG) and they asked me to take a look at it. The sheet of glass forming the surface of the door is bonded to a pressed steel frame at the top, which is still sound. However, at the bottom it's bonded to the flat part of the back of the hinges, and here the bonding has come away allowing the bottom of the door to flap about.

I can easily get at it to bond it back on, but the question (eventually!) is - with what glue?

It needs something with a bit of body, as the surfaces aren't a perfectly flat/flush fit, it needs to be pretty strong, and it needs to be heatproof. I don't know what temperature, how hot does an oven door get, 200 - 250 degrees I would have thought?

Too hot for Araldite.

Anybody got any ideas as to a decent glue for the above? And where to get it?

Cheers! :D

I bought this to stick the glass back in to my oven door when it fell out (tip: don't kick oven doors closed!) and it has survived many oven pizzas since then ;)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

FANTASTIC!

Now why didn't I think of googling for something as straighforward as "Oven door glue"????

Sometimes the bleedin' obvious doesn't occur to me.

Many thanks Terry - pizza's on me!
