Aaaaaah.... cr*p!
Re: Aaaaaah.... cr*p!
Here's a plan: How about you keep the four of them busy while I sneak into Jerry and Margot's place to pinch the key for the Volvo - easy to find as that sort always keep them in the fruit bowl - then I'll borrow it, go and have some fun and have it back before the sound of the vinegar strokes.

Re: Aaaaaah.... cr*p!
I forgot I had a Volvo 240GL. Bomb proof. The boot was like a pick up truck with a lid on. My daughter hated it so I never had to taxi her around.
I traded it in for my Neon. Still got that. One day I might get round to putting it back on the road. I would sell it but only to a good home.

Nah, the Neon's underpowered - needs a V6 fitted!
I would agree that the 240 is almost bomb proof - I had a friend who bought a five year old 245 and he managed to ruin it after about five or six years! I think the final straw was when they went up to the chrome strip on the sides when driving through salt water one high tide - but I may be wrong!

Re: Aaaaaah.... cr*p!
I've had three 240 and 260 series cars, one of these a 245. It was great but the trouble when you own one of the estates is that people you'd not heard from in years suddenly get in touch and want to be your best mate and why? Because they're flitting and need a means by which to take their double wardrobe to the new house! I used to love flinging it around on country roads too, great traditional RWD handling that was utterly predictable and stable. 140s were just as much fun to drive and my 144DL was the last manual that I could drive without severe discomfort as the clutch action on those was the lightest and most progressive of any manual I ever owned, especially when the cable was new. OK then; only when the cable was new, but they were easy to change and if not neglected would be fine for years.
It's a great shame that Volvo gave in to the temptation to move with the times and started building modern, more efficient FWD cars that, although doubtless safer too, just don't carry as much crap in the back.
Phil, here's a thought: Could you not persuade Fuzz to take on the Neon for a forthcoming episode of SOS? After all, they must be getting hard to find in straight condition.

Re: Aaaaaah.... cr*p!
I was about suggest that the neon might be worth saving especially if it was an early one!
What year was it registered/manufactured? Pre 96 had a different ecu and 4 stud hubs along
with drum rear brakes! They had an option of 2.0 1.8 & 1.6 engines all SOHC I have seen only
one 1.8 but never a 1.6 as they are even rarer then then unicorn poo!
If you find the vin number there is a vin decoder for the neon giving some production line data
on neons.org start page before it automatically redirects you to the forum.

Or a S2a/S3 Land Rover with a Montego engine (that would throw Fuzz's sense of preservation in a real tizzy!). I could pretend I didn't know about it and never go in the garage...
Re: Aaaaaah.... cr*p!

OK, so it wants a bit of new air in the tyres and maybe a wiper blade for MOT but I would if it were closer.
I wonder what "Defiantly one owner" is supposed to mean? Any natives here who could translate?
