Footman James

#1 Post by TerryG »

I like footman james,
I just called them to add a new driver to my policy, no change in premium, fitted a CD player, no change in premium, quote for front disc brakes (job for a couple of weeks time) policy comes down by £10. With my modern insurance (Admiral Multicar) they charged me an extra £20 for having a stainless steel exhaust!
Had to mention it as i am really impressed.

I like them too. Just got my quote for renewal and I wanted to increase the agreed valuation. No charge for that, no increase to the premium. I am slightly annoyed that it would cost me £1.50 to use my debit/credit card to pay for the renewal......well what else am I going to use?????

Think I'll be posting a cheque. 2nd class stamp and envelope is still cheaper than £1.50. Wonder if they'll still be able to charge to pay by card when banks do away with cheques?

Credit cards, fair enough, but they shouldn't be charging to accept debit card and indeed didn't when I took out cover with them recently, for a vehicle that couldn't be added to the policy I have with Adrian Flux. Ask again, this has to be a mistake.

FJ also get my business - no one else can get close to them with the policy cover that have offered me for the last two years - they do polices that other insurance companies / brookers can not offer - so I have both of our modern cars covered - business use included along with european cover and full breakdown cover - along with both of the classics with agreed values (limited mileage but hey thats all I need - the Rover has only done 2,000 miles in my seven year ownership) - I am happy if they want to charge me a small fee for the card transaction (some cash machines charge £2 for withdrawing £50 cash) so the £1.50 that FJ want to charge for the easy route suits me - and still they can cover all 4 motors for less than what every other insurance company wants for the Astra SRI policy alone !!!

Another thumbs-up for FJ. £272 for all 4 of my Triumphs with unlimited mileage and the breakdown cover. It would cost me about 4 times that to insure ONE Eurobox if the quotes I've had recently to insure a Citroen AX and an Audi 80 are anything to go by.

FJ lost my business this year. I'd been with them for years, but their increases made me look elsewhere. RH were a lot cheaper for the classics and the modern car - and they don't leave you hanging on the phone for hours while playing the same damned Vivaldi tune.

RH will only cover people with full-term licences though, however FJ (and, in all fairness, Adrian Flux) aren't put off by a licence that has to be renewed every three years.

So can we have a three-way fight please? None of this AV sh*te either; first killed, loses.

Just to jump off thread ever so slightly......

What happens if the AV referendum doesn't produce a conclusive winner? Do they use the AV system to the count the referendum votes or the FPTP? :D Sorry I couldn't resist that.

Back on thread now.......

The guy I spoke to definitely said debit cards incurred a charge too. I've sent a cheque now anyway. Gotta keep using them so we have enough evidence come the big cheque/no cheque fight in 2018 ;)
