Best seal kits??

#1 Post by Luxobarge »

Hi chaps - OK, so I've booked an MoT for the Midget on Wednesday, and as it hasn't been out so far this year I thought I'd give it the once over today. Glad I did, because there was fuel piddling out of the back, the flexi fuel hose from the fuel pump had gone, so I replaced that.

But the bigger problem is that there was a small pool of hydraulic fluid in the driver's footwell - fortunately the floor mat is solid rubber so it hasn't gone through to the carpets. The level in the brake reservoir was correct, but the clutch one was right down, so that's the culprit. I topped it up and it works, so it'll be good for the MoT on Wednesday, but clearly I need to replace the seals on the clutch master cylinder.

So to my question: It's been a while since I've bought parts for this car, and I don't want to put carp quality seals in it, so according to your current thinking, who is the best supplier of the best quality seal kits for a 1275 Midget these days? Not being funny, but cost is no object, I just want the best quality I can get, I don't want to be doing this job every year.

Normally I'd go to the likes of Moss, MG Owners Club, MGB Hive etc. but if anyone has any tips on a source of really good quality seals (kit) then I'd be grateful. Don't tell me about any that are on auction on e-bay, I don't do e-bay!

Many thanks all! :D :D

and +2. On the many occasions I've used that supplier both for my own cars and for work purposes, they've always supplied (gratis) new seal kits with any cylinders supplied whose time spent in stock has meant that the company couldn't guarantee how well the internals had survived. It's details like that which makes dealing with them a pleasure.

Brilliant, many thanks chaps, much appreciated.

I'm glad I asked, as I hadn't heard of them, I'll get on to them in the morning.

You can always have a look here
You get a photograph of your seal(s) and a newsletter telling you all about them.
Possibly not suitable for use in your clutch but you don't know until you try ;)

Thanks Terry, I knew I could rely on you.

The exact reason that I didn't use the words "I've blown a seal".....

Duh!

Took the Midget for its MoT yesterday, it passed (of course) but while up on the ramp we also spotted fluid leaking from the clutch slave cylinder too, so I've now ordered a slave seal kit too..... Might as well do them both at the same time, no rush as the car is a "toy".

Goodness knows when I'll find the time to do this, life is manic enough as it is, but hey ho....

Cheers!
