I'm going to check the levels in the lever arms shocks on my 103E and was wondering what the best oil to use to top them up (at present I don't know what's in them so I'm making an assumption, I know I shouldn't that it is correct). I've read that the original specified oil M100502C (taken from the workshop manual) is an SAE20 spec oil of which there are two types. Type 1 for every day use and type 2 for firmer suspension more suited to competition. There's no chance my car will require that!
I've had a look around and I believe this is the same as a motorbike shocker oil, is this correct? What oil do you use and where have you found the best place to get it(brand, supplier). Oh one last question as I forgot to look the manual before posting this, what is the capacity of each shocker,
Thanks

Re: Lever arm shock absorber oil
try the mgoc, lots of mgs had lever arm dampers fitted.
Re: Lever arm shock absorber oil
Google "Armstrong shockabsorber oil" -- there are lots of articles. One even shows how to strip the things down.

Moved to "techical queries" section
I've used motorcycle shock absorber oil in them before, available from err, motorcycle shops.
Or as above, send off for the real stuff, although I've never found that lever arm dampers work very well at the best of times and the difference in bike oil and the proper stuff has never been noticeable - they both give poor performance!
Pavel - thanks for the tip about searching for strip-down articles, I've had no end of problems with mine on the Midget, and the so-called "reconditioned" ones you get from all the usual suppliers are so bad they're not fit for purpose, so I'd be interested in doing the reconditioning myself. Where do you get spares from, such as new seals etc.??
Cheers

Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.
Re: Lever arm shock absorber oil
Sorry, can't help you there. I live in Oz, but I dredged my memory for when I last worked in the motor industry in the middle 60s in London.

Re: Lever arm shock absorber oil
Use 'jack oil'. I use it in my 1942 Dodge. I understand from the manufacturers that it's the same stuff. If you buy shocker oil you can bet ya' best boots it costs more per litre than 'jack oil'.
