I agree that it's not a lotus but if you drive a range rover with a v8, then drive one with a 300tdi, if you go home thinking the tdi is a better car then you are mad. It is probably better if you like driving through deep water as diesels are less fussy about being submerged (I do know of 2 v8s that are used for that and have no issue).
The TD/SDV6s fit as do the TDV8s which are both gorgeous engines but the appropriate electronics and gearbox adapters are expensive. I have pinched a coil from a friend's rr so I will be outside testing that as soon as I get through mopping up the water which is leaking from my 6 day old boiler! (I'm sure that this house is cursed)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.
Next weeks job will be a compression test :S
With a handy working car to play musical parts with I have changed every sensor, the distributor, coil, leads, plugs, even the fuel pressure regulator.
I really must replace the PAS pump (or just fit a shorter belt and bypass it for the benefit of my hearing while testing) before it drives me up the wall with a knackered bearing noise.

would a shogun engine fit? my cousin who is a lr/discovery/rr fan had one with the nissan patrol diesel engine in. on the other hand i love the sound of the mercedes g wagen diesel..
And he thinks that I need help? I totally get that once you sit behind a V8 there's nothing that'll match that noise but how about BL's own, DOHC 3 litre V8? It makes an even better sound than a Rover V8 and I don't think anyone yet fitted one to a Range Rover so it would be an interesting thread to read.

The engine bay is HUGE, I suspect you could fit a merlin engine in it with a bit of re-working to the bulkhead A few months ago in one of the LR mags there was one with a BMW V12 in it.
If the weather wasn't so poor I would get more done, faster. I need a lottery win so I can get my garage built sooner!

i owned & drove several v8s & there isnt much to beat the music they make, but with petrol being so expensive & diesel economy its the way i would have gone..there seems to be loads of jdm pajeros etc at reasonable money just waiting to be dropped in
Yes, and there are some awesome Diesel V8s around, I'm thinking Chevy, as found in the Caprice and similar. It also makes some of the loveliest cloud formations ever which - if I understand it correctly - would help to stop the flooding in the long term. Or did I dream that bit? It's just that we never had such hard rain when there were steam locos in regular service. QED!

I can't see the point of a Dexta engine - apart from being a 3-potter (and weight the proverbial ton), they are Perkins engines (basically a modified MF 35 one) and, having driven a CF with a Perky engine, I can assure you, they aren't perky at all! I seem to remember that some Massey Fergusons used a Perkins V8, but they had overheating problems - and must be fairly heavy as MF used the crankcase as part of the chassis in many of their tractors. You'd certainly need to sort the PAS if you tried one of those!
My heating friend loves his Mitsubishi engines - though his Pajero did suffer cam belt failure, which sent bits of something through the cam cover (another neighbour welded that up with limited success). His Delicia (or whatever) has been much more reliable - but it decides when the engine should stop so that the turbo gets plenty of oil as it cools down. I seem to remember he fancied a Nissan though - its cam is supposed to be gear-driven (or chain driven).
He keeps looking for a replacement for the Delicia, but can't find anything that is as versatile. He fancied a Land Crusier, so perhaps that's an engine to consider!
