lrp in an unleaded?

#1 Post by sierra3dr »

The previous owner to my Cortina had told me that the cylinder head has been converted for unleaded use. As I have been driving from home to unit in the Cortina,it runs really bad, starts to judder when slowing down in each gear. Apart from that, when accelerating,it does ping. As I drive the Cortina to my unit,my intentions have been,to dial in the 285 piper camshaft, but my attempt to make a piston stop from an old spark plug has been unsuccessful. Having presented the issues with the engine before I ask,can lrp be used on a cylinder head for unleaded(if it is,not sure) use?

If the head had been converted to unleaded then it should suit any type of petrol

Use a good quality 'Super Unleaded' petrol, most normal unleaded is rubbish!!

True, but there's a possibility that it may not have been. The pinging maybe down to a bad ignition system,I think the motorcraft dizzy has had it's day

LRP should also be OK on an unconverted head. Pinking is most likely down to a weak mixture or incorrect ignition timing.
