Michael schumacher

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

I've watched the piece on news 24 and didn't spot that, could it be a Kestrel-related mishearing? ;)

Well put; this sums up how I feel. Sienna made some dubious moves but I think he got better, whereas I think Schumacher became more brazen, as his reputation grew. I seem to remember that Stirling Moss commented, that such driving, in times past, would have killed someone.

It’s ironic that Schumacher finds himself fighting for his life, from such a seemingly simple accident. Someone was only saying recently, that someone they knew had a dizzy spell (I think they had over done it a bit, whilst engaged in some sort of keep fit regime) and fell off a four foot wall, near some steps. That person (Apparently a fit person) banged their head and is still not right after over six months. I suppose if the person was six feet tall, then their head fell ten feet.

Almost two years ago a friend of mine was killed falling downstairs. He had been at home with his Dad, had a couple of beers, said he didn't feel 100% and went up to bed. No idea what happened as his Dad heard a crash and found him at the bottom of the stairs and he had banged his head on an antique sewing machine table they had in the hall. Ambulance there very quickly as they live near the hospital but he was dead by the time they got there.

His friends and family were very cross when the local newspaper reported that he was over the 'drink drive limit' - what the h*ll had that got to do with it! We phoned the local paper who said that they don't send a reporter to every inquest but print what the Coroner sends them - when querying this with the Coroner's Office we were told that they always use the 'drink drive limit' as an indicator of alcohol consumption as most people understand what it means and can relate it to how many drinks may have been consumed. However we know that some had assumed that he had driven home drunk and then fell on the stairs - there's no limit on what you can drink in your own home and we know he'd only had a couple and had felt ill anyway - probably just lost his balance at the wrong time.

When I was seven years old, I tripped near the top of the stairs and somersaulted all the way down (I remember it as through it was yesterday). Next to our front door, was a full length window and my foot went through it. I needed two stitches for the cut but had I arrived at the window head first, I could have cut my throat…..doesn’t bear thinking about!! I hadn’t been drinking but I take your point, about people inferring that someone had driven, if reference was made to the drink drive limit :!:

That explains a lot ;)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Falling down the stairs didn't seem to hurt, nor my foot going through the window (I was more concerned with having broken the window) but having stitches, without any anasthetic, hurt  :!:

A few years ago I was working at GKN Sankey at their wheels facility. I worked at the time for an independant inspection company. I was doing inspection of the bolts that hold the two halves of a JCB and John Deere rims together. We had to check the torque at 400ftlbs. Me and another guy took it in turn with each wheel. One morning I was setting up one wheel to check while the other guy was checking the torque. Suddenly there was a bang and I was on the floor. This guy had pulled on the torque wrench and it came off and hit me oner the head! This wrench was a Britool one about 4 feet long and was heavy. I had a woolly hat on because it was cold in the the warehouse where we were in. I had to go to the first aid room. As soon as they saw the cut and the half an ostrich egg that was now on the top of my head it was an ambulance to the hospital in Telford. I was rushed into X ray. I had several X Rays and then sent into a waiting room. I had a head ache to beat all head aches. A nurse came and shone a torch in my eyes and asked if I felt sick and dizzy. I said no I felt ok. 2 doctors came in had a look and went away and then one came back and said. "We've had a good look at your head X Ray and we can't see anything in there so we think you have been lucky this time, here's a booklet about head injuries that explains it all!" I said "I don't need a book on head injuries I've got a head injury of my own." He looked at me and said, "You can go now but if you don't feel well in the next 24 hours ring 999." He walked off and left me to get a taxi back to the factory. GKN paid for that. I collected my stuff went home and didn't go back! I am often wonder what he meant when he said they can't see anything in there on my head X Ray! :?
