Is the Iconic Fairway Taxi practical and is it a classic?
Our members at the Fairway Owners Club.com think it is. Never perfect, but beautiful none the less. Anyone have any other commercial vehicles they use as a day to day run around.

PC would seem to agree that it is.
I used to work for a computer company in Wembley that used a 60s Daimler hearse as a delivery van. Unfortunately at the time I had very little interest in it so don't have any more information.

I believe Stephen Fry uses one as his daily drive and so long as spares are available, I expect they are reasonably practical (My guess is they are more suited to urban routes than the open road?). As to are they classic, yes, if old enough

Practical? Beyond a doubt as they have strong Diesel engines, a tighter lock than anything that isn't a Reliant kitten or Fox and loads of reconfigurable room in the back but my classic taxi of choice for use as a daily would have to be a Metrocab. Sorry, it's my Reliant fetish oozing out and takes nothing away from the worth of any other form of black hack, any one of which could happily live out its days as a PLG vehicle.
Classic? Since when were we allowed to debate this question on the forum? It's an older, interesting vehicle that has an enthusiastic following. QED! Now get out there and buy one before they've all been shipped to Dundee where the black cabs go to die.

Just in case any new members are wondering, every time the subject of "what is a classic" comes up it always ends up in a heated squabble, and as there's no useful purpose to be served by this, such threads are discouraged.
As you were!
Cheers

Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.

i had the joys of spending a few days in blackpool a couple of weeks ago and must admit to making excuses to wifey to get a couple of rides in a fairway that was being operated there. the driver was a real enthusiast and i gave him my number after the 3rd trip in the event he decides to upgrade/renew his cab.
loved it and so did my 2 teenagers!!

That makes it official then, Terry, so there's no longer a question to be answered.TerryG wrote:You might want to purchase this:

It's always comforting to read that there is still such a thing as teenagers with fully functional logic circuits!kevin wrote:i had the joys of spending a few days in blackpool a couple of weeks ago and must admit to making excuses to wifey to get a couple of rides in a fairway that was being operated there. the driver was a real enthusiast and i gave him my number after the 3rd trip in the event he decides to upgrade/renew his cab.

I'd probably do exactly the same if I were in one of the places that has an FX4 & Fairway sanctuary. There are a few working in Edinburgh but it's getting surprisingly hard to find one along there, this in spite of the large quantity of Yank grockles American tourists that like a good taxi ride and prefer these to the Metros and those blobby ones that handle like a leaking dinghy.
