So who's doing the classic motor show at the NEC?

Here's the place to chat about all things classic. Also includes a feedback forum where you can communicate directly with the editorial team - don't hold back, they'd love to know what they're doing right (or wrong of course!)

I thoroughly enjoyed that. The only problem I have is that my phone has bitten the dust as soon as I plugged it in to get the pictures off it. Normally I love HTC phones and rave about them but DO NOT buy an HTC One series!
The Mrs was irritated as I spent about 40 minutes chatting to Neil, Sam and John on the PC stand. Sam explaining the bureaucracy involved in getting cars out of various countries and showing funny pictures of products and places he has encountered. John was defending putting his "Rover 75" in to the mag saying that they have a huge following and if they aren't a classic now, they will be one day. I left that argument for another time.
There were more barn find cars this year which were great to see and enthusiastic people on stands to talk to about them. As much as I love restored cars, original ones are better to look at.
I did notice there were no ticket checks when walking through the bike show. There were notices saying that bike show visitors could upgrade their tickets to go in to the car show.
If I had to pick something to complain about, it would be the chuggers going around collecting.
All in all a superb show and £21.50 for a day out with more car porn in one place than you see for the whole rest of the year was certainly worth it.

Purchases this year included: Morris Minor hubcaps in good order for £3 each and a set of pry bars for £8.

Blackbird leathers are superb. I have got a couple of their coats and some gloves. they are all amazingly good quality. I only bought some leather conditioner from them this year.

Shame you had HOX-related bother, Terry. I've had mine since March 2012 and haven't had a moment of trouble, so could yours be suffering from the latest FTP/MTP failure issue? I replaced USB mass storage to mine after the OTA update from ICS to Jellybean for this very reason but did it before I found myself needing to move large files between devices.
As long as the piccies are still on the device, then you'll be able to shift them off either by installing a USB mass storage patch from the Play repositories or by setting your handset back to factory state. (Just ffs be sure & do this after unmounting the virtual SD card partition or you really will lose stuff).

As for the Rover 75, I think that a 90 makes a more practical daily car but any P4 would be welcome here, especially the 105R. 8-)

Off-topic, but do you know of a place to score Mog van wheels? My BiL is after a set for his '65 convertible. Apparently they are slightly wider than the car wheels.

Just as well we didn't go, as I hear the M42 was closed, because a man was standing on a bridge, threatening to jump. Perhaps he can't face another Strictly Come Dancing.

I had a set of new ones from http://www.morrisminorspares.co.uk/ and yes, they are a little wider. I haven't fitted them yet.

You beat me to sending the link, lol.

One other thing I found today, I have always assumed the rear mountings for the front bumper of my brooklands kit was a bodge by a previous owner but there was one on show that I got to have a nose at today. It looks like a factory bodge. One thing crossed off my to do list without lifting a finger.

Edit: I nearly forgot, I also met Dougal Cawley from Longstone tyres on the PC stand. As well as being a thoroughly nice guy, he gave me a business card with a VERY good longstone advert on the back which I can't post on here. John, PM me your email address. Rich, a copy is already on it's way.

I didn't see the business card - however I did spend some time admiring their posters but I couldn't spend too long in front of the stand as I had my son with me - he hasn't told his Mum yet :D
