So who's doing the classic motor show at the NEC?
Re: So who's doing the classic motor show at the NEC?
Ah the autojumble, a golden opportunity to spend money you don't have on stuff you don't need!!
Re: So who's doing the classic motor show at the NEC?
define "need"
I need more tools but i don't really NEED them.
My list includes:
New bench grinder
pillar drill
TIG welder
Spanners
Sockets
Ratchets
Grinding discs
Compressor
4 post lift
car parts:
passenger side front wing for the mog
every range rover body panel i can lay my hands on to fit my '94
Ford type 9 gearbox
late rover v8 rocker covers
"serpentine" rover v8 oil pumps
nuts
bolts
screws
those dish washers and screws with a curved head you use for screwing trim panels on
chrome
Lots more things if i happen to see the "right" bit
Obviously with my budget of 11p most of that is going to have to wait until funding is more abundant or until the Mrs isn't looking

Hmm, the 55's n/s/f wing is coming off as the other three are alreadyGRP and a fourth is going in as it's a daily car so [the perfect steel n/s/f] will be available if you want to save it from the recycling bin.
It's original and being a local car has never seen salt.
You'll see in the picture that it has been drilled for a mirror and the aerial but a man of your skill with the welding kit shouldn't find that a problem. It's undamaged unless you count its present colour!

Re: So who's doing the classic motor show at the NEC?
Hi John,
I really need to refresh my memory on my real classic, it gets neglected far too often. Is the 55 late enough to have the indicator / side light in the same unit the same as the late models or is it a trafficator model with the small sidelight?
My current wing has an aerial hole in it (filled with an aerial) so having a replacement would be a good excuse to dump the silly thing and fit an invisible one inside the car.

Re: So who's doing the classic motor show at the NEC?
Good question, Terry! The car has its original front marker lamps and as far as I know, the GRP wings that were available for these in the '80s didn't discriminate between combined indicator/marker units and single markers, only between lowlight, high headlamp with waffle grille and all later (grille with the horizontal bars) Minors. I'd only be worrying if you were about to fit a smaller lamp where the larger type used to be, not this way round.
It's in the thread about cars we've seen and there's a link there to the rest of the pics.

Re: So who's doing the classic motor show at the NEC?
Guys I appreciate this is a thread about the show...but I want to get a gas welding kit would you advise me to buy new or see if I can pick a used kit up on the autojumble?
I don't really know what to look for apart from hoses, torch and maybe gauges.
anything I should avoid?

Re: So who's doing the classic motor show at the NEC?
Yes. NEC prices! The same traders will have the same stuff at Huddersfield or Rufforth Park and it'll be much cheaper as these jumbles are held in venues that don't charge a King's ransom for a pitch.

Re: So who's doing the classic motor show at the NEC?
I have picked up some bargains at the NEC before (cutting discs for 10p, sockets for 50p, a pair of new Lucas spot lamps for the mog £10, etc) but agreed allot of traders there seem to charge a premium for the privilege of purchasing from them at that particular venue.

Re: So who's doing the classic motor show at the NEC?
Time for a rant
I see that the Classic Bike Show is again using Hall 6 which means that we will have to fight through the security barrier to go through that show and back into the other half of the car show. This is because car show tickets include entrance to the bike show but not the other way round as you can buy cheaper tickets just for the bike show.
As a result there are barriers separating the halls with security staff checking tickets and hand stamps to allow people though from one to the other - what a crazy situation ! Why not allocate either hall 12 or 17 to the bike show as they are at either end of the complex which would then give most visitors a free run through all of the other halls without passing through the security barriers - or going out of the hall walking around and then back in again
And another thing - where's halls 13, 14 & 15 on this map - and why is hall 6 next to hall 20

It's the only way the bike show gets any visitors at all
