shame

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

These cultural stereotypes are often too kind to the cheese munching surrender monkies ;)

I have to be careful - my (late) cousin married a French woman, my nephew is married to a Bulgarian, my niece to a Yorkshire man (and they live in Bulgaria). My nephew and niece were both born in Germany and suffer a Scottish father. I was most depressed to discover a great-great grandfather was from Middlesex and great grandfather was there until he became a marine (and later on, a vicar).

The shame of it - I'm three-quarters scouse and an eighth Southerner!!! Mother insists she's a Lancashire lass, but I reckon Ormskirk is near enough Liverpool to count!

You're not English if you don't hate the French. It is one of the conditions of being given a passport ;)

I'm a Yorkshireman married to a Canadian - which leads to some intresting conversation - even after 15 years she cannot understand the Yorkshire accent (even though I have lived in the south for last 30 years and my accent has mellowed somewhat) meanwhile she always coming out with things in her sweet Canadain accent that I have to correct her on i.e.

Her - I need to put some gas in the car : Me - It does not run on LPG
Her - Can you put these in the trunk : Me - But we dont own a elephant
Her - Where is the flashlight : Me - I repalced the bulb in the lounge last week

And I am consistantly correcting her alluuuminham pronunciation to aluminium
