Re: LOTUS MK1 CORTINA RESTORATION
The car cost me £15,000 and I will spend at least that again on it.Thats not including my labour.rich. wrote:nice work mate.. whats the estimate for the restoration? just to give some of us a guide.. hours spent parts & labour etc...
I could have cut corners to save money but I would never be happy with it.
A few things for example.
new old stock genuine ford wings £1000 a pair
A mint wooden steering wheel £750
Over £4500 on new panels.Engine £4000.Front panel £1000.
I didn't have to have these new items but if I don't do it the way I want it now,i will never do it.
Hours I would estimate 1200 ish.
Cheers Paul

jesus! ford bit have shot up in value
i must admit even if the finish is half as good as your truck it will still be a great car..

Classic Ford parts seem to be a licence to print money.
Assuming you have the available budget prices matter less as you will end up with a Lotus Cortina at the end of it. There are precious few and definitely not enough to go around. I strongly suspect the majority of the forum users will be watching this thread and drooling.
When it is finished, you will be able to park next to a brand new Ferrari and everybody will be looking at the Ford.

Yeah, you will, but why would you want to?TerryG wrote:you will be able to park next to a brand new Ferrari
Wishing you continued success with the Ford, it's a given that this one will be a stunning car when the job's finished.
