Good Morning,
I'm starting to fit the new floor pan and cills to my Heinkel / Trojan bubblecar.
We've been told that a flanged panel or a "joggled"seam will be the best and a tool has been recommended called a ROLASTEP.
This was originally made by Sykes-Pickavant but is no longer in production, and they have no plans to re-introduce it.
Perhaps some of you out there have used or know of this tool, and whether its a good idea, easy to use,or for sale anywhere ?
I can't find one on ebay, but the last one sold around a year ago for about £50.
Perhaps I should try using a compressed air tool , for punching flanging & joggling ?
I've tried the combination hand punch / swaging pliers, but they are hard work on a metre long 16 gauge panel.
Any help and advice would be very welcome.
with thanks,
Roger
Joggling panels for welding with a "ROLASTEP"
Re: Joggling panels for welding with a "ROLASTEP"
Welcome to the forum
I have been welding my car recently and have butt welded all the joins. If you are looking at replacing a previously spot welded seam then I can see how a punch and plug welding would be handy but if you are repairing panels then there is no need to add a lap joint, it is just somewhere else for water to get in and rust to start. if it was flat steel when it left the factory there will be no problem with welding flat steel back in.
There are plenty of hand joddling / punch tools on ebay for the £50 mark eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Joddler-Punch ... 1002525872
If you are going to do lots of it then an air tool would be a good investment unless you have really big biceps
