Snigger at the misspelt title

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

I don't think my set) up will be like yours John (this has XP and Firefox). However eBay can almost freeze when loading descriptions on my machines (Win8 and Win7 as well as another XP!) and repeated pressing of F5 is sometimes necessary to get the description. Mind you, that could be to do with my Wi-Fi (for this machine) or ISP "not throttling" my connection!!

As people are mentioning ebay issues, to make everybody aware ebay have been very naughty with some of their scripting on their most recent face lift. it is causing them LOTS of difficulties. Bizarrely ensuring that you have .jpg and .gif files associated with Windows Picture and Fax viewer makes a huge improvement.
If you do a search in ebay then look in process manager you will see that your CPU usage is quite high and as soon as you close the search window it returns to normal.
I have a long string with a technical bod at ebay going through the issues at the moment. It should be OK on firefox / Ubuntu as that is what they use for testing. they have failed to realise that most of the world use windows.

It is, by and large, but some listings just don't load in a timely manner. The new eBay front page now takes around ten minutes to load completely and that on a machine with the best mobile CPU that could be persuaded to talk to it as well as 8GB of quick DDR3 RAM. And don't get me started on what they did with "Want It Now". The badstarts!

Preloved, Craigslist and Gumtree are proving much more suitable for most of the things I sell on t'interweb these days. :|

I will add that to the list of things I am grumbling to them about. I can't say I have done much testing using it with Linux, I have found the best combination to be Opera 32 on Windows 7 x64. As my email is running on exchange and I need outlook I don't use my Linux machines as much as I used to.

I was amazed that leaving a search box open ate 24% of the CPU of a quad core 3rd generation i7 on Windows 8.1 x64 and ie.

This bug is more likely to cost ebay customers than them charging commission on postage as mentioned in another thread.
