What would you have, given the choice?

What would you have, given the choice?

#1 Post by Paul240480 »

Just for fun, what Practical classic would you have given a choice and why? Pics if possible please.

I'll start:
Always had a hankering for one of these:

Reason, when I served on HMS Ark Royal the Warrant Officer Master at Arms (Boss of the Regulating Branch - Naval version of The Police) had one. It just looked so cool pootling through Pompey dockyard of a morn' then parking up next to all the escorts, cav's and cortinas of the mid-80's . I never got around to 'going for it'.

My 'old man' had one of these as his 1st car, I have many fond memories of trips from Derby to Cheriton (Nr Winchester) to visit family & days on the beach at Hayling Island in the Vanguard.

ever since i can remember i wanted this car

Image

it belonged to a good friend of my dads since 1967 and i can remember going on holiday with my parents in their wolseley 6110, accompanied by trevor and nelly in the singer

we still have the wolseley (needs a resto job - one day when funds allow) and i bought the vogue a few weeks back so i have my practical classic! sadly the owner trevor died suddenly 3 weeks ago, just a few weeks after selling me the vogue

I just had educate myself. The first one is 16/60 (I noticed that in your quote). The second is a Vanguard. I don't see many 16/60's,although they are a chosen Classic, compared to the Vanguard. I would go for the Vanguard as it is unique

:o haha, no that must just have been the way I asked... It purely is a what would you have out of choice, the two I mentioned would be my choice...... Though I'd have to keep me Volvos. Lol.

Sorry if I confused you

There's a cheapish Wolseley on eBay that isn't terribly far from me (it says 30 miles, but it was 40 when I worked in the town). However, that isn't on my list - nor is the Vanguard (with the tractor engine that I know only too well).

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wolseley-16-6 ... 35c982ecb0

Nor, if money wasn't a consideration, would I choose a run of the mill car that I have known or driven (eg Minx/Minor/Maxi /Cortina etc etc).

Two that spring to mind are the 70's Aston Martin V8 (the rag top is more appealing!) and a Riley RM, though I'd really like a pair of AM's! Unfortunately, my DB7 and DB9 are from the other "hobby" firm that Sir David Brown started: tractors!

OK, it isn't a rag top, but I could actually afford this at the moment:

I hasten to add that, while I could buy it, it would mean I spent the rest of my life on "state handouts", so it's a non-starter!

In the real world, I do have a need for a decent estate and a Hillman Super Minx would fit the bill nicely (or a Vogue estate)
