Not being cheaky.....just pointing out that I dont want a Q.....and someone saying you cant do something....even though the rules say you can......well thats just open to abuse :)

But yeah...I agree.....if you cant afford a £150, 000 stratos.....a £20, 000 replica is the next best thing......

But this doesnt account for why a midget or frog eyed sprite sells....

I mean, why buy a fiberglass midget that will never rust, when for the same money you can buy a car full of bog for 1/2 the money

Bubs, what pilkie was trying to say, is simply that unless retaining either the original and unaltered chassis, or an original and unaltered monocoque body shell, the points system does not apply and you need an IVA.

In the case of a BMW it isn't the subframes you would have to use, but the entire unaltered monocoque shell. You could however take something with a seperate chassis, use the chassis and running gear then drop any body you want on it.

This though limits your choice of doner vehicle quite considerably for the result you want to achieve.

Not saying I like it, but thems the rules as I understand them.

And what I said is ill be building it to go through an IVA.....I found someone willing to make the windscreens, as you cant use an original front screen, wipers door handles etc will all have to be taken into account.......the main issue is the Q ,. ..dont want a Q......also if I build it and passes the IVA, means there shiuld be no reason for another built to the same spec not passing

Bubs,

From GOV.UK, guide to vehicle registration

"Keeping a vehicle’s original registration number

You can apply to keep a rebuilt vehicle’s original registration number if you can prove you’ve used:

the original unmodified chassis or bodyshell (car or light van)

a new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original (car or light van)

an unmodified frame, either original or new (motorbike)"

Its all pretty much the same shebang mate.

Looking at the original link it suggests that if you have any queries to contact your local DVLA Office, from reading this thread so far I'd suggest that's what you need to do!
