Running board rubber

#1 Post by spannerman75 »

Does anyone know of a uk supplier for running board mat. I have found two companies in america that can reproduce them but the idea of sending my running boards half way round the world and spending thousands of dollars really doesn't appeal to me.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Have you tried Woolies? Excellent company if you've not dealt with them before.

Depends on what sort of pattern you want on it - what car's it for?

By the way - you might want to change your username, we already have a Grease Monkey on here, he's the chief mechanic on PC magazine! Yours being the same but without a space might create confusion? Hope you stay with us - we want more cars with running boards on here!

Cheers :D :D

Realized the username cockup shortly after signing in but can't work out how to change it. The car in question is a 1937 60 series cadillac. The running boards are shaped so they need to be made to fit unfortunately they will be a bespoke part. I am sure there must be a man in a shed somewhere in the country who enjoys playing with rubber!

:D I can think of one in France, but that's probably the wrong sort of rubber.

 Might it be worth giving the specialist Beetle people a shout? Some Bugs these days carry lovely thick, ribbed rubber on their running boards and they don't all come ready covered.

Regarding the name, you can't change it in "display name" settings as you could on Retrorides so you need to ask an admin person to change it for you, they're the ones with their user names in colour.

If you send myself, Luxo or any of the other admins a PM (list here) we will gladly change it to a new name of your choice :)

Username - changed as requested, hope this works OK for you. Please don't consider this as a cockup - you weren't to know! Thanks for being understanding.

Regarding running board rubber, might still be worth calling Woolies, they're a helpful bunch and if they can't do what you want they might well know someone who can - one of their suppliers for example.

Cheers!

Oh and another thing - we'd love to see some pictures of your car, whatever condition it's in right now. In fact, this might help us understand exactly what you need to achieve the right running board rubber - I'm a member of the Surrey Vintage Vehicle Society (SVVS) where most of the member's cars have running boards, if I have a clear idea of what's needed, I might be able to ask around and see what solution others have come up with>

Cheers! :D :D

BTW they do list one for your 60 series caddy but not UK based.

I have spoken them them they are based in Canada. The 4 figure cost wasn't so much of a problem its the fear of trusting shipping companies not to lose the running boards in transit. Last year we lost a steering box for a jeep in transit which caused two months of head scratching trying to find a replacement. Ive found a company in southampton called Martins rubber company who specialize in precision elastomeric engineering? perhaps a engineering firm will be the answer. I think searching wider than running boards may present more results. To be continued....
