SAAB 900 Classic steering n gear change prob

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with steering/gear change on a saab 900 classic,where the power steering feels like it is going on and of whilst driving.Also the gear change into 3rd takes a very firm push and feels notchy.The car had been stood in a dry garage for 5 years and these faults occured on its first big run out.The gear change was noticeable straight away,but the steering problem only happened after an hour/35 miles of driving.Any ideas about the causes of these problems are very much appreciated.

Oh well,as i now have the answer from Mike at two stroke saab,it is the steering uj that connects to the rack that is seizing internally.Apperently the needle rollers rust up and break up inside,causing stiff steering as though the PAS is comming in and out.
