That can only work if there's a marginal joint around one or two pins and the cold environment acts as freezer spray does in the circumstances and shrinks the solder to the point where the contact is broken, freezer spray is a common enough diagnostic product but, if the connections are all good, then freezing the whole thing won't do any good and could do a lot of harm unless you can be 100% certain that there's never been any condensation inside the set.

Even ten years ago, some of these ICs were already working to baw hair tolerances, so if neither Mitsubishi nor Volvo are to be trusted - and not everyone is guilty of that, especially not these days - the only way is to pull the chip and replace with the generic alternative, a similar one was around £4 at Maplin last time I swapped one.

Surely easier just to get the bloomin' code? Rufe - in spite of working at a main dealer* - will sort you out for free....

* I understand your reticence about using main dealers, but some of them are good, and FRF are one of them...

No idea about ovlov main dealers, but for the Discovery, All I had to do was ask our local main stealer, and provide a chassis number.

Can't do any harm to ask, surely?

Exactly, and it has to be better than risking killing the entire radio.

Or you could always use the online code finder if you have the serial number of the set. The one I found shows codes for everything likely to have been fitted by the shared line at that period in Charisma/S40 production.

Oh aye, best put up a LINK to a suitable code calculator.

And CRUCC has always worked well too, both are clean and won't give you any trouble but neither is as convenient as a call to either of the dealers and as Luxo has recommended one in particular, you might as well give that a shot first.

what ever you do, DO NOT stick the radio in the freezer, my old workmate did that... needed to buy a new radio after... just get the code..it will be cheaper....
