Re: ford galaxy
Are the door locks and the "door open" warning light working properly? I had a similar problem with the last Golf and it turned out to be the driver's door lock that was causing the problem - though the "door open" warning light came on. The stupid things have a microswitch on the actual catch and the cam on the catch had worn - £100 or so for a new lock as I couldn't pack the cam to get the switch to work!
Re: ford galaxy
the courtesy light switch has pinged off somewhere, but that was six months ago... when the guy disconnected the battery to do the front suspension he was talking about getting the key reprogrammed... its since the suspension change the problems have started..
Re: ford galaxy
Does the "global lock" work? (If you press and hold the lock button do all the windows roll up?)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Re: ford galaxy
I made the mistake of looking at the Sharan section of the VW-Audi forum! It didn't help a lot, though one favourite is the wires between the door and frame (on the driver's side). Do the locks work when you turn the key in the driver's door? That Golf would lock the driver's door manually, but the rest worked with central locking (it didn't have a remote). If it has the same system, moving the key slightly worked the central locking (and the Golf would leave the driver's door unlocked with that bit) Turning the key further ocked the door manually. If yours did the same - or similar - with the key, it might be the key fob push button is kaput. Otherwise the transmitter/receiver bit is suspect (which I suspect is why the guy said the key needed reprogramming).
Don't just blame the battery disconnect - it may be a red herring. I spent a good afternoon taking the boot lock apart on the Golf - I had problems with water getting in through the rear wiper spindle and thought the two faults were connected (as suggested on various forums).

Re: ford galaxy
it all works fine with the key, & it unlocks with the remote but doesnt want to lock remotely.. its easier when you have your hands full of toddlers...
Re: ford galaxy
With the remote only. If you have rear electric windows then it has a "global lock" so you can hold the lock button down and it will wind the windows up.
It does sound like the car isn't recognising that one of the doors is closed. it could be the bonnet sensor if the interior light is going out when you shut the doors.

Re: ford galaxy
ours is the poverty spec, electric front windows only.. ive taken the key apart & checked the contacts & now the locking works occasionally..
Re: ford galaxy
Have you got the flip out key or the solid one? Programmnig a new remote is really easy and fairly cheap from the bay if you have the solid key.
