dvd

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Yes i have two 10inch that came built into headrests, the headrests are universal fitting and come in a choice of colours.
Each unit plays on its own or can be linked to play one film on both.
I got mine from eBay from hong kong and despite being a little nervous about buying them from there ive had then for about 4 years with no problems.
They also look a lot nicer than the ones you hang on the seat...and safer from the tealeaves.

This is the kind of thing i have.

I have one you hang, and I think it's perfectly safe - as it can leave the car when I do! ;) it can also be moved between cars, which is very handy.

I don't really use mine... Could be persuaded to part with it :)
…that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today.
If I was allowed a sigpic, this would be it

Rich, another way:

Buy a split new, top-of-the-range Range Rover. They come these days with a screen that can display only the satnav or radio/computer info to the driver while the other occupants of the car are able to see the content of a DVD being played in the dash-mounted front end of the thing.

Saw one in action earlier on and it's an amazing bit of kit that's not only multi-region and multi-standard but can handle both DVD5 and DVD9 which many of the aftermarket portables don't.
OK, so it only comes with the 38 ton agricultural vehicle attached but what an excuse to buy one eh? :D

I have both! Well ones fitted into headrests, and ones that strap onto them, both have pluses and minuses, the fixed ones don't have to be fitted and plugged in each time you want to use them, and you don't end up with trails of wires everywhere as they need power and usually headphones, plus RCA cables if the kids want to watch the same film to join them together. The fixed ones are always ready to go, if you wire them properly, the loom is hidden in the seat and out the way, but then these ones don't usually come with inbuilt DVD players, so you then have to buy a separate one, then you'll need another if the kids can't agree on which film to watch. Being fixed means another temptation to pikey thieving scum to put a brick through your window, although we put headrest covers over the screen when not in use that didn't look too dissimilar to the standard fabric of the seats which helped.

So, if it was something that wasn't going to be used regularly I'd go for some that velcro onto the headrest. They're only really beneficial on longer journies anyway as there's not many programmes or films that last less then 30 minutes, and you really don't want to be sat in the car park for 15 minutes waiting for something to finish after driving 10 minutes to Tesco! ;)
